DescriptionThe whole story▼

A Monster 1200 spends much of its life in town, and in town a rider stops constantly. Many riders are taught to put the left foot down at the lights and hold the bike on the rear brake with the right, which keeps the machine steady and leaves the left hand ready on the clutch. It is a small habit, repeated at every junction, and it relies on a rear brake that holds without fuss. Accossato's TS012 is a cap for the rear brake fluid reservoir of the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2019, made from aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised in seven colours.

Key Features

  • Rear brake fluid reservoir cap for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2019
  • Replaces the cap on the original rear reservoir
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
  • Seven colours: black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver
  • Part of a set with FP004, FP007 and TS003 for the same bike
  • Fit to be checked on Accossato's application list
  • No German ABE on file; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium is the starting point for the TS012; CNC machines give it its shape and anodising its colour, which can be black, blue, gold, green, orange, red or silver. It is designed for the original rear reservoir of the listed bikes, so the Monster 1200's rear master cylinder and brake line stay standard. When you remove the old cap, check the diaphragm or seal below; if it has hardened, replace it.

Held on the Foot Brake

Holding the bike on the rear brake at a stop keeps it steady, especially on a slope, and lets the rider pull away smoothly by easing off the pedal as the clutch bites. On a Monster 1200 ridden through a city, that pedal is pressed far more often than on a country road. The rear system is simple, but it needs the same care as the front. Check the reservoir with the bike upright rather than on its side stand, so that the reading means something; the fluid ought to be between the two lines and clear in colour. Keep to the change interval Ducati sets in the handbook even if the rear brake feels fine, because ageing fluid gives little warning. When fitting the TS012, cover the paint and bodywork around the reservoir, open it only briefly and rinse off any spilled fluid with water straight away. Tighten it gently. Before riding, work the pedal a few times with the bike stationary and, once moving, try it at low speed in a quiet street.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the TS012, Accossato's list covers the rear reservoir of the Monster 1200 from 2014 to 2019. We also offer it for the Hypermotard 950, the Diavel 1260 and the Benelli Leoncino 500. The Monster 1200 is one of the bikes for which Accossato makes a full set of caps: the FP004 for the oil filler, the FP007 for the clutch, the TS003 for the front reservoir and this TS012 at the rear. Check your model year against the list before ordering.

Road Approval

Test or approval documents for the TS012, such as an ABE, are not available to us; it is therefore offered for racing and competition.
