DescriptionThe whole story▼
Knox describes the women's Shield as the first-ever Class AAA hoodie crafted specifically for female motorcyclists. It is a full-zip hoodie that looks and feels like sportswear, made from a single protective layer that meets EN 17092 Class AAA.
Micro-Lock Compact armour comes fitted at shoulders, elbows and back, so the Shield is a complete riding top for town and short trips, designed in the UK by Knox, with a patent applied for.
Key Features
- Women's cut, close-fitting like an armoured shirt
- Single-layer garment certified to EN 17092 Class AAA
- UHMWPE fibres knitted with elastane and soft cotton
- Micro-Lock Compact Level 1 shoulders and elbows, Level 2 back
- Cotton-lined hood, full YKK zip, thumb loops
- Two exterior zipped pockets with visor wipe, internal phone and earplug pockets
- Reflective prints that stay black in daylight
A Hoodie Built for Women Riders
Knox designed the women's Shield for all types of riders and terrains. It appears and feels like sportswear but, as Knox puts it, makes no compromise on protection. The cut follows a woman's shape and sits close, which keeps the armour where it should be.
With a full zip, it is easy to put on over a T-shirt and looks natural off the bike.
The Fabric
The Shield is knitted from Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene fibres, known for unparalleled strength and durability, combined with elastane and soft cotton for stretch and comfort. This single fabric is what achieves Class AAA, so there is no separate abrasion lining to make it bulky.
Knox has applied for a patent on the construction; details are on its website.
Armour
Micro-Lock Compact armour is fitted at shoulders and elbows at Level 1, and the back protector is Level 2 to EN 1621-2. The pads are low profile so the hoodie keeps its casual shape.
A branded Velcro panel inside the front takes Knox's optional Micro-Lock chest protector.
Practical Touches
Two exterior zipped pockets with soft pullers, one with an extra visor wipe, two low-profile interior pockets and an interior earplug and phone pocket take care of storage. Soft stretch binding finishes cuffs and waist, and thumb loops add security.
Reflective prints are black in daylight and reflect at night. Knox's security belt loops let you connect the hoodie to jeans, and matching Shield joggers are available separately.
Everyday Use and Sizing
The women's Shield is at its best on city rides, scooter commutes and weekend trips where you want to walk around afterwards without changing. Under an open waterproof shell it also works as a warm-feeling protective layer in spring and autumn, though Knox gives no temperature rating.
Knox's women's size chart uses bust, waist and hip; the Shield is made in XS to XXL, and Knox recommends the larger size if you are between two. Take out the armour before washing and follow the care labels closely.
What You Should Know
The Shield gives no rain protection and is not windproof in the way a shell is; add an outer layer for bad weather. Shoulder and elbow armour is Level 1. The chest protector is optional and not included.
Women's sizes run XS to XXL. Remove the armour before machine washing and follow the care labels.
Colour
Black is the only colour for the women's Shield, chosen to make it look like everyday clothing. It goes with jeans, joggers and riding trousers and hides marks well. By day it doesn't stand out in traffic; at night the reflective prints help other road users see you.
