The word Super in a model name is a marketing decision, and it stops at the bodywork. Behind it sits the same intake housing as in the Scrambler, the Corsaro, the Granpasso and seven other Moto Morinis of this generation — which is why the same part numbers appear again and again across a range that looks, from the outside, like a set of quite different motorcycles.

Trim names and part numbers

For an owner this is mostly good news. A shared housing means the element stays in production, stays stocked and stays affordable, because eleven listings hold one number up rather than one listing holding it alone. It also means the ordering rule is simple: the code and the build years decide, and the name on the side panel is not part of the specification. Where the range does split is at the fine media — those are listed for the two Scramblers only.

The trade, stated plainly

What changes hands here is flow for retention, in fixed proportions that apply on every ride. A bike that meets loaded air a few weeks a year is paying the flow side for fifty of them; a bike that meets it most weekends is not. That is the whole calculation, and it is about roads rather than aspirations — which is also why the answer can change when the roads do, and why keeping the standard panel on the shelf costs nothing. Neither element makes the engine stronger — in a series airbox this one leaves a standard Super Scrambler exactly where it was.

Care and cleaning

Air first and gently, from the clean side of the CM170P14 outwards; a mat that stores dirt through its depth needs longer than a weave to give it up. Where air stops working, lukewarm water and a mild detergent finish the job, with rinsing continued while the water still discolours.
