What It Is
At 1 mm, 58.5 mm it fits one position only; the next size up carries a different number. Its polished section runs directly in the seal, so any mark there ends the seal's life quickly. Öhlins offers shafts in several lengths per diameter because the stroke differs by model. Surface hardness is what lets the shaft survive thousands of cycles through a seal.
Why the Original
Öhlins lists this part under its own number in the service catalogue so a workshop can order exactly what it needs. Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. We can check the number against the Öhlins exploded view before you order — just ask. Order by part number. The dimensions below are the ones Öhlins publishes for it.
Getting the Number Right
01901-05 is the Öhlins number for this position — the same one printed in the service documentation. diameter 1 mm, length 58.5 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Shaft straightness matters: a bent shaft drags in the seal head and destroys the seal within hours. Surface hardness is what lets the shaft survive thousands of cycles through a seal.
