DescriptionThe whole story▼

2.8 horsepower on a 54.7 PS motocross engine, and 1.03 kg less to carry. On a bike ridden over jumps by a rider who moves their weight constantly, both of those matter more than the same numbers would on any road machine.

Key Features

  • 57.5 PS, up from 54.7 PS — a gain of 2.8 PS at 9,750 rpm
  • 2.86 kg against the standard 3.89 kg: 26.5 per cent less
  • Built from premium titanium alloys with different wall thickness in each section
  • Profiled surface tuned to meet FIM competition noise limits
  • Largest muffler the available space allows, for more silencing
  • Thirty minutes to fit
  • Closed course competition use only

Wall Thickness Varies by Section

Akrapovic does not use one gauge of titanium throughout. The sections that take impacts from roost and from the bike going down are thicker; the sections that only carry gas are thinner. That is why a system this light survives a motocross season.

It is also the reason this is the flagship line. A cheaper system uses one thickness and compromises in both directions.

FIM Noise Limits

Competition noise rules are the constraint that shapes a modern motocross exhaust, and Akrapovic addresses them through the muffler's profiled surface rather than through added packing. The muffler is also the largest the frame will accept, which gives more volume to silence with.

The practical effect is that this system will pass scrutineering at an FIM-regulated event. A louder system would not.

Thirty Minutes

A motocross exhaust has to come off for cleaning and go back on between motos, and Akrapovic designed for that. Half an hour covers the whole system — headers and muffler both.

The 450 Is Where the Power Gain Lives

Compare this system with the same line for the CRF250R and the difference is stark: 2.8 PS here against 0.7 PS there, and 26.5 per cent weight saved against six per cent. A 450 motocross engine simply has more to give.

That is not a criticism of the 250 system, which is doing a different job. It is the reason the 450 version is the easier purchase to justify.

Not the 2025 Bike

Honda revised the CRF450R for 2025 with a new frame and a changed exhaust route. This system covers 2021 to 2024 and does not carry over.

Also for the RX

Honda's CRF450RX is the cross-country version of the same machine, with a larger tank, a kickstand and different suspension settings. It shares the exhaust route, so this system fits both.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-H4MET16-FDHLTA covers the Honda CRF450R and CRF450RX from model year 2021 through 2024. Honda revised the CRF450R for 2025, and that machine takes a different system.

Road Approval

None. For closed course competition use only. Not intended for street use.
