DescriptionThe whole story▼

Wind is an underrated enemy of parked motorcycles. On an exposed car park by the sea or at the top of a pass, a strong gust pushes against a fairing and a top box as if they were sails, and a bike resting on its side stand can be blown over. The Aprilia Shiver 750 GT, with its half fairing and its frequent luggage, gives the wind more to push against than a naked bike does. Accossato lists its TP052 crash pads, machined in aluminium with a coloured insert, for the Shiver 750 GT from 2009 to 2016.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the Aprilia Shiver 750 GT, 2009 to 2016
  • CNC-machined aluminium
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Screw cover in the same colour available
  • Pack of two
  • Some bikes require the fairing to be drilled: ask us before ordering
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The TP052 starts as aluminium and is shaped on CNC machines; its insert is anodised and comes in a choice of six colours. Those who want the fixing concealed can choose the version with a screw cover, finished in the insert's colour. The pack contains two pads. In a fall they are intended to touch the ground before the fairing and the frame of the GT, which may limit what has to be repaired afterwards. After a heavy impact, a pad should be replaced rather than trusted again.

Gusts on an Exposed Car Park

Riders who tour in windy regions develop a few habits. Park the Shiver 750 GT with its nose into the wind, so the gusts meet the narrow front rather than the broad flank. If the wind comes from the side, place the bike so that it blows towards the side stand, pressing the bike onto it rather than lifting it off. Leave it in first gear. A top box and a cover add surface, so take the cover off in a storm or strap it down tightly. Where you can, park in the lee of a wall, a building or a parked van. On the road, the half fairing can make the bike sensitive to crosswinds; stay relaxed on the bars and let the bike move a little rather than fighting it. If the wind does win while the bike is parked, check the pads, the fairing panels and the mirrors before the next ride.

Fitment and Compatibility

On Accossato's list, the TP052 is given for the Shiver 750 GT from 2009 to 2016. Accossato explains that some motorcycles need the fairing drilled to take its crash pads and does not say which ones, so please ask us before ordering whether your Shiver 750 GT is affected. For this bike, the PF031 front and PP011 rear axle sliders are also available from Accossato.

Road Approval

German ABE, test mark or certificate: none of these is available to us for the TP052, and we offer the pads for track and competition use accordingly.
