DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
TC-5 is the grey Jammer — a monochrome execution of a graphic normally sold on colour. It is the quiet one on this shelf, and the only decor here that will not look like a particular season in five years' time.
What this helmet is for — and what it is not
Competition helmets are designed around a rider who is working: standing on the pegs, breathing hard, moving constantly, and generating far more heat than a road rider ever does. That is the brief this helmet answers, and it is why the ventilation is extravagant and the aperture is enormous.
🔵 It has no visor and is not intended for sustained road use. For mixed on and off-road riding, look at the Hornet ADV 06.
About the Jammer TC-5 graphic
Monochrome graphics age far better than coloured ones, because a palette dates and a value structure does not. On a helmet that will realistically be replaced for wear rather than for fashion, that is worth something — and a grey shell is genuinely the most practical finish for an off-road helmet, because dry dust, mud spatter and water marks all show least against a mid tone. Grey also does not tie the helmet to a bike brand, which black and the bright colours arguably do. The compromise is legibility from the fence line: this is the hardest helmet here for a spectator to pick out at speed, which matters if you race and does not if you ride trails. 🔵 It carries the same graphic premium as the coloured versions.
What MOTORCYCLE NEWS measured
🔵 The honest sentence from the independent test, quoted rather than paraphrased: „substantial wind noise on the road". MCN rated the helmet 4/5 overall in March 2026 and were explicit that this is a track helmet being judged partly on tarmac.
Everything else scored highly — comfort a full 5.0, ventilation exceptional, weight measured at 1250 g.
AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS
A double-D ring is not a period detail on a competition helmet, it is a requirement. It has no mechanism to fail, no plastic teeth to strip and no adjustment that can drift; it gives exactly the same tension every time, which is why racing regulations mandate it.
Around it: an AIM+ six-layer composite shell in four sizes, and a multi-density EPS core with M.E.D.S. built in.
M.E.D.S. — and why it is not MIPS
If you are comparing this helmet against one advertised with MIPS, compare them as two solutions to the same problem rather than as a helmet that has the technology and a helmet that does not. Both target rotational forces. They are engineered differently and licensed differently.
🔵 The VFX-WR 06 has M.E.D.S., Shoei's own system, integrated into the multi-density EPS core. It does not carry a MIPS licence.
Seven in, eight out, and a filter in the nose
What ventilation actually manages is humidity as much as heat. Sweat that cannot evaporate stays in the padding and stays on you, and on a hot moto a saturated liner is what ends a session early.
Seven intakes, eight exhausts and Max-Dry padding are aimed squarely at that. The nose filter is replaceable, and it should be replaced — a clogged one undoes the rest.
Sizing, goggles and Max-Dry
Four shell sizes matter twice over on a competition helmet: once for weight, and once for the mass centralisation that spares your neck. A helmet scaled from a single shell across the whole range ends up oversized on small heads and thin-walled on large ones.
Inside, Max-Dry padding in several thicknesses, fully removable for washing.
How loud it is on the road
A quiet motocross helmet would be a badly ventilated one, and no serious rider wants that trade. The openings that make this helmet cool under load are the same openings that make it loud at 120 km/h — there is no way to have one without the other.
🔵 MCN's test noted substantial wind noise on the road while rating the ventilation exceptional. Both statements describe the same design.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
The X-SPR PRO at the top of the range is the interesting contrast, because it is also a competition helmet — for road racing rather than motocross. Same intent, opposite execution: sealed, aerodynamic, shaped for a tucked position, and with a visor.
Neither is a compromise; they are two different sports. This one is for dirt.

When something breaks
Interior padding is worth planning to replace. It compresses, absorbs sweat at a rate no road helmet sees, and eventually stops holding the helmet where it should — and a fresh Max-Dry set restores a two-season helmet more completely than most riders expect.
Cheek and centre pads come in several thicknesses, so replacing them is also a chance to correct the fit.
