DescriptionThe whole story

The dark blue Raid is the quietest carbon graphic — the drawing is fully present but carried in a single deep colour rather than announced across three. It is the version for riders who want the carbon shell without the rally livery.

Three modes in one shell

The peak on this helmet does real work rather than styling: it shades low sun, deflects spray and roost from the rider ahead, and gives the shell its line. It also catches air. Both facts are true, which is why it is removable.

Peak on for the trail, peak off for the transfer — the mode system exists so you do not have to choose once.

Mode Peak Eye protection Best for
Dual-Sport fitted Recoil visor mixed days, low sun, spray
Off-Road fitted goggles (not supplied) trail and enduro, maximum airflow
On-Road removed Recoil visor motorway transfers — the quietest setting

About the Raid Blue White finish

Deep blue is the most practical ground colour on an adventure helmet and it is under-chosen. Fine trail dust reads as a grey haze against black and as an obvious film against white; against navy it largely disappears, which over a long trip means a helmet that still looks presentable. Blue also works across bike brands rather than tying the helmet to one, which is relevant on a helmet likely to outlast the motorcycle under it. 🔵 Conspicuity sits above the blacks and well below the neon versions, which on unlit roads deserves a thought before choosing.

The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers

The carbon and composite versions of the X.RALLY are the same helmet with different shells. Modes, Recoil visor, ventilation layout, interior, retention and approvals are common to both; the shell and the weight are not.

This one is X-PRO Carbon at a claimed 1350 g, with X-Foam EPP bumpers across the whole lower shell including the chin.

Shell Construction Weight (Nexx) Decors From
X-Matrix2 six-layer fibreglass composite 1475 g Plain, YUMA 399,99 €
X-PRO Carbon carbon fibre 1350 g (1553 g measured, size M) PRO Carbon, Raid, Gravix, Zero Pro, Namib, FIM Racing #2 559,99 €

The Recoil visor, and the two shields in the box

The Pinlock lens on this helmet is the 200 XLT MaxVision rather than a smaller insert, which means the anti-fog coverage extends to the edges of your field of view rather than stopping short of it — relevant when you are looking through the corner of the aperture at a rutted line.

It is fitted from new; the Recoil plates take it and the photochromic shield interchangeably.

Nine intakes — and two tests that disagree about them

A mid air chamber sits between the intakes and the exhausts and is the least visible part of the system — it spreads incoming air across the crown rather than channelling it in lines, which is what stops a helmet feeling cold in one spot and warm everywhere else.

🔵 Measured cooling nonetheless came out at 2/5 in one independent test, against praise in another.

How loud it actually is

The independent noise score of 3/5 is worth reading alongside the comfort score of 3.5/5 from the same test — both describe a helmet that is good rather than exceptional at road speed, which is exactly what an off-road-first design should produce.

🔵 The measured figure behind that score was 103 dB.

Interior, hydration routing and fit

The retention system on this helmet is deliberately traditional where it matters and modern where it does not. A double-D ring for the tension — no mechanism, no drift, identical every time — and an X-LOCK magnet purely to hold the loose end tidy.

The alloy is Pearaluman, aluminium-magnesium, chosen to resist corrosion.

1350 grams claimed, 1553 measured

1553 g measured is a perfectly reasonable figure for a helmet that converts between three modes, carries X-Foam bumpers across the whole lower shell and ships with two visors. It is simply not 1350 g.

🔵 Both numbers appear on this page deliberately. The claim is Nexx's; the measurement is an independent road test's, taken on a size M X-PRO Carbon.

Where it sits — and who should buy something else

Among Nexx's off-road-capable helmets this is the lightest and the most convertible. The trade-offs are documented rather than hidden: measured noise of 103 dB, contested ventilation results, and a weight claim the scales disagree with.

🔵 All three are on this page rather than in a review you would have to go and find.

Intercom, camera mounts and spare parts

🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet entirely.

For the X.RALLY they are stocked alongside liners, peaks, visors, the photochromic shield and Pinlock lenses.
