DescriptionThe whole story▼

Poppies II is a floral graphic, which on a motorcycle helmet is genuinely unusual, and this is its bright version — pink on white, and one of the most visible helmets LS2 makes.

1350 grams, and why that is the headline

Compare like with like when weighing helmets against each other. LS2's own FF808 Stream II weighs about 1550 g and does have an internal sun visor; the Rapid III is 200 g lighter and does not.

🔵 Neither is better; they are different answers to the same question.

HPTT shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06

The shell splits 2XS–S, M–L and XL–3XL. If you take a size at either extreme of that range, this is the specification that matters most to how the helmet will look and fit.

🔵 It carries ECE 22.06 homologation — the current European standard.

No independent safety rating — and the trap that goes with it

🔵 The predecessor's result is the specific thing to be careful about. The FF353 Rapid scored 2 stars of 5 at SHARP. It shares a family name with this helmet and nothing else — different shell, different standard, different generation.

Carrying that score forward would be as wrong as carrying a good one forward. We do neither.

About the Poppies II white and pink graphic

Two separate things are working here and they happen to point the same way. The white base puts the helmet at the top of the value scale, which is the single property that decides how quickly a driver resolves you against dark tarmac in flat light. And pink is close to absent from the traffic environment, so it registers as something that does not belong — the visual property that draws an eye scanning for movement. A floral graphic is not the register most helmet buyers expect, and that is precisely why it works: nobody looks past it. 🔵 The costs are the ones every pale helmet carries. It shows fly strike and motorway film clearly and will want washing more often than a dark one, and printed artwork cannot be repaired after a deep scratch. Wash it wet, dry it with something clean and soft, and never take a dry cloth to it. A note on how this reads in practice: floral graphics on helmets are almost always assumed to be a women's colourway, and there is nothing in the design or the sizing that makes that true — the Rapid III runs 2XS to 3XL in every finish. If you like it, buy it. The visibility argument behind it is entirely serious regardless of who the marketing photograph shows.

What this helmet does not have: an internal sun visor

🔵 If you wear prescription glasses, the absence of an internal shield matters more than it does for other riders. Prescription sunglasses or a photochromic visor become the options, and both cost more than the difference to a helmet that has a shield.

The Rapid III has no drop-down sun visor.

Chin and top intakes, channelled EPS

🔵 Wind noise is left unrated on this page. No independent measurement is published for this helmet, and a manufacturer's feature list is not a measured result.

Noise also depends enormously on your screen and riding position, so a single number would be misleading even if one existed.

Anti-fog — prepared for, not supplied

The helmet does include a breath deflector and a chin curtain, which together reduce how much of your own breath reaches the visor and help with fogging on their own.

🔵 They are not a substitute for an insert, and the insert is not supplied.

Lining, closure and everyday comfort

Comfort over four hours is decided by pressure distribution rather than softness. A lining that feels plush in the first minute often lacks support and produces a hot spot later.

🔵 The Rapid III's lining is firm, removable and washable, and replacement pads are available.

Where it sits in LS2's range

LS2's road range splits reasonably cleanly by what is inside the shell: the Rapid III is the one without a sun visor, the Stream II and Vector II have one, and the Dragon adds carbon on top.

🔵 Weight tracks that order in reverse — this is the lightest of the thermoplastics at 1350 g.

Care and replacement parts

The one component that cannot be serviced is the one that actually protects you. A crushed EPS liner does not recover, and a thermoplastic shell can look untouched over one.

🔵 After a serious knock, replace the helmet rather than assessing it by eye.

In the box

  • LS2 FF820 Rapid III helmet — Poppies II, White and pink (HPTT shell)
  • Clear outer visor, fitted
  • Chin curtain, fitted and removable
  • Breath deflector, fitted and removable
  • 🔵 No internal sun visor — this model does not have one
  • 🔵 No Pinlock insert — the visor is prepared for a Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™, which is sold separately
  • 🔵 No second visor and no intercom — both are separate purchases

Size guide

If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller and let the padding settle. A helmet that slips on easily and feels immediately pleasant is usually one size too big.

🔵 Eight sizes, 2XS to 3XL, on three shells.

Specification

  • Model — LS2 FF820 Rapid III
  • Part number — 168200402
  • Colour — Poppies II — White and pink
  • Homologation — ECE 22.06
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP has no entry for the FF820, Rapid III or Rapid 3 (brand list checked directly). The 2-star result under „FF353 Rapid" belongs to the previous-generation helmet — different shell, different standard — and is deliberately not carried over. No ADAC or Certimoov result either
  • Shell — HPTT injection-moulded thermoplastic; three shell sizes (2XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL)
  • Weight — approx. 1350 g (±50 g), mid-size shell without accessories
  • Sizes — 2XS to 3XL (eight sizes)
  • 🔴 Sun visor — none. This helmet has no drop-down internal shield — unlike LS2's FF808 Stream II, FF811 Vector II and FF817 Challenger II. It is most of the reason it weighs 1350 g
  • Visor — clear outer visor, scratch-resistant, tool-free change
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — prepared for Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™ — the insert is NOT included. The pins are fitted; the lens is a separate purchase
  • Ventilation — chin and top intakes feeding channelled EPS, with rear exhausts — two intake paths, one more than the FF817. 🔵 Assessed from the published construction; no independent airflow measurement exists
  • 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no independent measurement is published for this model
  • Retention — ratchet buckle
  • Interior — hypoallergenic, antibacterial, fully removable and washable. 🔵 No branded wicking fabric (no COOLMAX or X-Static) and no magnetic wind deflector — both appear further up LS2's range
  • Included — chin curtain and breath deflector, both fitted and removable
  • 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet, not eligible for FIM-sanctioned competition
  • Serviceability — visors, cheek pads in several thicknesses, complete lining, chin curtain, breath deflector and vent covers all available separately
  • Replacement guidance — after about five years regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
