DescriptionThe whole story▼
Please note: sale to France is prohibited.
This is the 2026 Malcolm Stewart replica — the helmet as it is worn by the rider, in gold over grey, rather than a graphic drawn for the catalogue. It is the only version here that exists because of a person instead of a design brief.
What this helmet is for — and what it is not
A competition helmet asks something of the rider in return for what it gives. You supply the goggles, you accept the noise on the road, you replace the peak when it breaks, and you clean the nose filter after dusty sessions.
🔵 What you get for that is 1250 g, exceptional ventilation and a shell built to Shoei's racing grade. There is no visor, and there is no version with one.
About the Malcolm Stewart Replica 2026
Replica helmets occupy a strange position: mechanically identical to the standard model, priced above it, and bought for a reason that has nothing to do with performance. It is worth being straight about that. The shell, the M.E.D.S. liner, the four shell sizes, the AIM+ construction and the ventilation are exactly those of the black version — the extra money pays for a paint scheme and for the fact that it is his paint scheme. If that appeals, it appeals honestly. Practically, replicas are the most collectable and the least reprintable finishes on any shelf: they run for a season, the parts to match them are made in smaller numbers, and a chipped one cannot be touched in. 🔵 Buy the peak and mouthpiece you want at the same time as the helmet.
What MOTORCYCLE NEWS measured
What an independent test cannot tell you is whether the helmet fits your head, and on an off-road helmet with a large goggle aperture that question is more open than usual. What it can tell you is how it performed for someone with no stake in selling it.
MCN, March 2026, on the 06: 4/5 overall, comfort 5.0/5.0, ventilation exceptional, 1250 g, substantial wind noise on the road.
AIM+, four shells, double-D and EQRS
If you have not used a double-D ring before, practise it once before you need it at a start gate. Thread, pull, tuck the loose end into the popper — ten seconds, identical tension every time. A strap that is even slightly loose lets the helmet move, and a helmet that moves does not perform as designed.
The rest: AIM+ six-layer shell in four sizes, multi-density EPS core, EQRS cheek pad release.
M.E.D.S. — and why it is not MIPS
The structure of this helmet is more layered than it looks. AIM+ composite outer shell for load spreading and penetration resistance; a multi-density EPS core for linear impact absorption; and within that core a flexibly linked element for rotational energy.
🔵 That last part is M.E.D.S. — Shoei's own system, not the licensed MIPS technology, and named correctly here for that reason.
Seven in, eight out, and a filter in the nose
Fifteen vents means fifteen things that could let debris in, which is why the mesh matters. The nose cover is the one directly exposed to roost and it is the one built with a metal screen and a filter behind it; the rest are shaped and positioned to draw air without presenting an open hole.
The result, in MCN's words, is exceptional ventilation.
Sizing, goggles and Max-Dry
The interior of a competition helmet gets a harder life than any other part except the peak. It absorbs sweat at a rate a road helmet never sees, it is washed constantly, and it is expected to dry between sessions. Max-Dry is specified for exactly that cycle.
Fully removable, washable, and available in several thicknesses so the fit is adjustable rather than inherited.
How loud it is on the road
🔵 A practical note for transfers: a neck tube or collar closes the gap under the chin bar, which is where a surprising amount of both noise and cold air enters an open-aperture helmet. It costs very little and makes a road section noticeably more bearable.
It does not change the fundamentals — MCN's assessment of substantial road noise stands — but it helps.
Where it sits in Shoei's range
Against a road helmet the VFX-WR 06 is not more or less safe, it is differently specified. It carries a higher shell grade (AIM+ rather than AIM) and a rotational-energy system that most road helmets do not, and it gives up the visor, the sealing and the quiet that road use requires.
🔵 Both hold full ECE 22.06 approval — in different categories, for different uses.

When something breaks
If the helmet fits everywhere except one spot, do not accept it — on a competition helmet a hot spot becomes a headache within one moto. Cheek and centre pads are separately available in several thicknesses for exactly that purpose.
We also stock replacement peaks and mouthpieces in a range of colours, nose cover filters, mud guards and spare peak screws.
