The Multistrada 950 is the one in the family that actually leaves the tarmac. That is precisely the use case where the standard P08 and this P14 stop being interchangeable, and where it is worth understanding what separates them.

Fourteen microns against eighty

The P08 that Sprint Filter fits as its standard performance element retains particles down to about 80 microns and flows around 5,050 litres per square metre per second. The P14 retains down to 14 microns and flows 1,800. That is roughly six times finer, at about a third of the air flow. Neither number makes one filter better than the other — they describe two different jobs. On sealed roads the coarser, freer-flowing element is the sensible default. On a gravel road, where the particles doing the damage are exactly the fine ones the P08 lets pass, the finer medium is what you want between the road and the cylinder head.

What that buys on this motorcycle

Fine dust is abrasive and it does not stop at the airbox — what gets through reaches the bore. A rider who only ever sees dry tarmac will never notice the difference; a rider who spends two weeks a year on unsealed roads is asking the intake for something the standard element was not designed to give. The P14 is a dry non-woven medium, so there is no oil to trap dust into a paste and no oil to migrate downstream onto the air mass sensor. Compressed air from the clean side restores it, and it goes back in dry.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards — a non-woven medium releases dust readily and needs nothing else in normal use. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air; never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry.
