A filter sits in a chain of restrictions, never on its own. Between the outside air and the combustion chamber of a Panigale V2 955 there are intake ducts, the volume and shape of the airbox, throttle bodies, valve timing, an exhaust with its own back pressure and a map written around all of it. Opening out one link changes the chain only if that link was the one holding it back. On a standard V2 955 the filter is not that link, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise.
Key Features
- The F1-85 racing cloth — 85 µm apertures, rated by the maker at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester for its whole life; nothing oiled, so nothing can migrate downstream
- Retention measured at 95.22 % on 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the standard weave
- Assembled without the carbon fibre frame used on the WorldSBK build of the same part
- Direct exchange for the factory panel in the series airbox — nothing cut, nothing remapped
- Serviced instead of replaced, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The link that was never binding
Ducati sized the paper panel against the engine it built, with margin, and the intake was then approved as one system. Substituting a more open weave lifts a restriction that was not setting the limit, so the series bike does not get stronger because the element in it changed. Figures quoted for parts like this one usually come from a session in which several other things moved at the same time. The weave is a genuine specification and a poor promise, and it is worth reading in that order.
What is left when the power claim goes
Three things, and they carry the page. Resistance across the element starts low and comes back to the same value after every clean, rather than drifting upward across an interval the way a loading paper panel does. Nothing is oiled, so there is no film waiting to be drawn onto the sensors of a machine that carries a good many. And the part is a fixture rather than a consumable: R127S F1-85-AVIO is bought once, for a motorcycle somebody intends to keep, which is the only arithmetic under which an assembly from this end of the price list makes sense at all.
Care and cleaning
Service it dry. An air line held against the clean side and drawn slowly across the weave pushes the load back out the way it came in, and that is the whole job most of the time. Water is the exception: hand-warm, a drop of mild detergent, rinsed until nothing more comes out of the cloth. What follows is the step people rush — the element has to stand in moving air until it is dry through, with no warmth of any kind helping it along, because warmth is what a polyester weave does not survive. Refit it bare. The instructions live under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the airbox of the Ducati Panigale V2 955 under model years 2020 to 2024. The same assembly covers five further Ducatis — the Streetfighter V2 955 alongside the 899, 959, 1199 and 1299 — and the years attributed to each are listed in the Fitment tab.
