Almost Two Kilos

3,3 kg standard, 1,4 kg fitted. Spark rounds it to more than fifty per cent and the number is on the generous side of that — this is one of the largest proportional weight changes in Spark's entire catalogue, on a motorcycle whose whole design brief was to be light.

All of it comes off the far end of the bike, behind the rider and above the axle line, which is where a naked feels weight most in a direction change.

Titanium and Two Carbon Parts

The case is titanium, the end cap and the heat shield are carbon fibre. On a Duke the silencer sits exposed on the right flank with nothing to hide behind, so the finish of the shield matters as much as the case itself.

Titanium also holds its shape through the heat cycling a silencer sees; a thin steel case eventually goes out of round where the clamp bites.

Spark says the design was made to complement the angular lines of the 990 Duke, and the Konix Evo is the right family for that — flat flanks tapering to a sharply contoured cap rather than a rolled tube. It is the newest of Spark's silencer shapes.

Euro 5+, and You Can Hear It First

The approval is Euro 5+ and covers the slip-on as supplied. Spark also publishes a sound sample and a written installation instruction for this code, so the note can be heard before the part is ordered.

Three Machines, One Part

Spark lists the number for the 990 Duke, the 990 Duke R and the 990 RC R. The faired RC R and the two nakeds share the platform and the silencer mounting, so one article covers all three.

Titanium or Dark, Same Price

Spark builds this silencer in two surfaces at 701 euro each. This is the titanium one; the dark electro-coloured stainless version is GKT0121DOM and weighs 1,5 kg rather than 1,4.

What Comes Off the Bike

Spark replaces the silencer and its connecting section; the manifold, the catalytic converter and the sensors stay as KTM built them. That is the basis of the Euro 5+ certificate and the reason the fitting takes an hour with hand tools.

Nothing needs re-mapping afterwards, and the standard link pipe is retained.
