Behind a superbike fairing there is very little room around the bar, and the cables leave the throttle at an angle the frame dictates. A body profiled for that routes them without forcing a radius they do not want.
Why Two Part Numbers Exist
JetPrime also lists a housing that fits most of the Ducati range. The P version is drawn around the Panigale specifically, which is the one to choose when the installation has to be tidy at full lock.
Superquadro, Literally
The name means over-square, and at 112 by 60.8 millimetres it is the most extreme bore-to-stroke ratio in any production motorcycle engine. Everything about the 1199's character follows from that single decision.
A Hundred and Sixty-Four Kilograms
Dry. Removing the frame entirely and letting the airbox carry structural load is how Ducati got there, and it made the 1199 lighter than any litre superbike had been.
Eight Levels of Traction
Ducati Traction Control arrived with fine granularity rather than three vague settings, adjustable while riding. In 2012 that level of resolution belonged to racing electronics rather than to showrooms.
A Machined Bore
The throttle tube turns inside this body and a position sensor reads it. Cut rather than moulded, that bore stays round and keeps the reading consistent for years.
Black Anodised
One finish, converted into the aluminium rather than laid over it. Against red bodywork it is the option that draws no attention.
Ergal 7075
An aerospace grade at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined alloy. On a component clamped to a handlebar and expected to stay there, that difference is structural.
A Difficult Motorcycle
The 1199 asked a great deal of its rider and rewarded the ones who could give it. It has aged into something people collect rather than commute on, which is exactly what it always was.
