Lighter Than the 950
Ducati renamed the 950 and took five kilograms out of it, mostly through a new rear subframe and a lighter shock. It also lowered the seat, which mattered more to buyers than the weight did.
A Hundred and Thirteen Horsepower
From the 937 cc Testastretta, with 96 newton metres arriving low enough to make the bike genuinely relaxed. It is the engine that makes the smaller Multistrada work.
Adjustable Screen and Seat
Ducati offered several seat heights and a screen that moves without tools. On a motorcycle bought for long distances those details determine whether an owner keeps it.
Housing Alone
The switch block is untouched. This is the throttle assembly by itself, appropriate when the switchgear works and only the moulded plastic is the complaint.
A Sensor in the Bore
The grip's rotation is read electronically and the bore here is machined rather than formed. Over years of touring mileage that consistency is what keeps the throttle feeling new.
Black Anodised
One finish, converted into the aluminium. It survives the weather an adventure bike meets considerably better than a painted or coated component would.
Ergal 7075
An aerospace grade at roughly twice the strength of ordinary machined alloy. On a tall, heavy motorcycle that will eventually topple over, it is the right material.
The Sensible Multistrada
The V2 does most of what the V4 does at a lower weight and a considerably lower price. A great many owners of both have concluded that the smaller one is the better motorcycle.
Where the Five Kilograms Came From
A new rear subframe, a lighter shock and a redesigned swingarm. Ducati did not find the weight in one place and it did not compensate with exotic materials, which is the slower and more durable way to make a motorcycle lighter.
