The Most Powerful Monster
A hundred and sixty horsepower from the 1198 cc Testastretta, which made the R the most powerful naked Ducati had built when it arrived. It was aimed squarely at the hyper-naked class.
Öhlins, Carbon and a Higher Seat
Ducati raised the ride height, fitted Öhlins at both ends and added carbon panels. The R is a Monster set up for a rider who intends to use all of the engine.
A Two-Into-One-Into-Two Exhaust
The R carried a distinctive high-level system that changed both the sound and the look. It is one of the details that separates it from every other 1200 at a glance.
Housing Without Switch
The switch block is unaffected by this part. It is the throttle assembly alone, appropriate when the electrics work and the moulded plastic is what needs replacing.
A Sensor in a Machined Bore
Ride-by-wire means the housing is a sensor mount. Cut rather than formed, the bore keeps the tube's rotation consistent, which on a 160 hp naked is worth more than on most bikes.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against carbon panels and gold suspension it is the finish that adds nothing and takes nothing away.
Cut From One Block
Ergal 7075, an aerospace grade at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. It costs more to cut and it holds its clamping face for the life of the bike.
A Short Production Run
Ducati built the 1200 R for only a few years before the 1200 range was replaced. That has kept them interesting, and owners tend to specify them accordingly.
