Öhlins on a 240 Section Tyre
The S brings fully adjustable Öhlins at both ends and Brembo M50 calipers. Ducati specified it as though the Diavel were a sports bike, which in most respects it behaves like.
Testastretta DVT
Continuously variable timing on both camshafts, from 1262 cc. It is one of the more sophisticated production V-twins anyone builds and it exists to make a large engine tractable rather than fast.
The Shape Argument
The Diavel divided opinion from the day it launched and has never stopped. Ducati sold it anyway, in numbers, to people who rode one and stopped caring what it looked like.
Throttle Assembly Alone
The switch block remains in place. This covers the housing by itself, which is what an owner actually needs when the electrics are sound.
Machined Bore
The throttle tube turns inside a bore that is cut rather than formed. It stays round and stays the right size long after a moulded housing has developed a small amount of play.
One Finish
Black anodised, converted into the surface. Against the S's forged wheels and gold suspension it is the option that steps back rather than joining in.
Aerospace Alloy
Ergal 7075 rather than the 6000 series found in most machined accessories, at roughly double the yield strength. Harder to cut and considerably more durable where it is clamped.
Distance, Not Laps
An S is ridden hard and far rather than around circuits. What the cockpit has to survive is a decade of weather rather than a season of pressure washing.
