The Volume Model
The 821 outsold the 1200 comfortably because it was enough motorcycle for most people. That pattern goes back to the original 600 and 900 being sold side by side in the 1990s.
A Hundred and Twelve Horsepower
Liquid-cooled, in a bike light enough that the figure is more than sufficient. Ducati tuned it for midrange rather than peak and the result is genuinely easy to ride quickly.
Universal Clamp
The mounting slots accept the original master cylinder and the radial replacements. It covers the motorcycle as sold and after whatever has been done to it since.
Black, Red or Titanium
Each grown into the aluminium. The 821 has always been sold on personalisation as much as specification and this part number reflects that.
Salt, Over Seasons
An 821 is frequently its owner's only motorcycle, so it goes out in February. Salt reaches a terminal through a moulded joint and works on it across years rather than weeks.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed within a body cut from one block of Ergal 7075. No seam means no route in, which is most of what separates a ten-year part from a five-year one.
A Tank Reshaped for 2018
Ducati narrowed the waist and reworked the seat junction partway through the model's life. It is a small change that made a considerable difference to riders who could not quite reach before.
Sold in Several Characters
Stripe, Dark and standard trims with different wheels and finishes. The 821 has always been marketed on personalisation rather than on outright specification and buyers responded to that.
An Engine With a Long Life
The 821 Testastretta has proved itself across a decade of high-mileage examples. Whatever eventually goes wrong on one of these motorcycles, it is very rarely the bottom end.
