A Balance Free Rear Shock
Showa's design separates damping from the main body, which Kawasaki adopted from its racing programme. It works and almost nobody else uses it.

Nothing Else Can Be Tested
Until the engine runs with a gear engaged, no other part of a preparation list can be checked. That is why this job comes first every time.
Reversible
The standard switch refits with the stand whenever the motorcycle returns to the road, and nothing is consumed in either direction.
Pressure Washing
A lance aimed at the swingarm pivot drives water directly into the connector, and the corrosion that follows takes a season to appear. It is the commonest cause of premature failure on any marque.
On a Bike Being Sold
Refitting the standard switch takes five minutes and removes a question the buyer would otherwise have to ask about the safety systems.
Checked at Every Start
The state is read as the ignition comes on, so any problem with the fitment appears immediately rather than halfway through a ride.
Record the Change
Anybody working on the motorcycle later will assume the interlock behaves as Kawasaki built it, and the eliminator is easy to miss. A line in the book prevents a wasted afternoon.
Mostly at Circuits
A considerable proportion of ZX-10Rs see track days regularly, and preparation on them is entirely routine. The stand comes off with the mirrors and the plate in the first evening of ownership.
