Desmodromic Valve Gear
Mechanically closed valves, which is what allows a bore this large to rev to eleven thousand. Ducati remains the only manufacturer using the system.
Why Owners Convert
Electronic legs are expensive to rebuild and the valving is fixed by the manufacturer's own logic. A conventional cartridge or a track shock puts the tuning back in the hands of whoever set it up.
A Track Decision
Most conversions happen because a rider wants a specific spring rate and a specific valving stack rather than a controller's interpretation of the road surface.
On the Rear
The connector generally sits above the shock, and reaching it is easier with the seat unit off. Nothing needs the shock itself removed.
Ducati's Own Connector
The eliminator uses it rather than a generic housing, which is why it seats, locks and seals exactly as the harness expects.
Position Feedback
Some models add a travel sensor so the controller knows what the suspension is doing rather than only what it was told to do. That line is monitored too.
What Is Actually Being Replaced
A semi-active leg is a conventional cartridge with a stepper motor on top and, on some models, a travel sensor alongside. The hydraulics underneath are ordinary and the electronics are what make it expensive.
A Crash-Damaged Leg
One bent electronic fork leg is often what starts this conversation, because replacing it costs more than a complete conventional cartridge kit. The eliminator is what turns that repair into a decision rather than a bill.
