The Same Engine, Different Air
Wide bars change what the rider does with the throttle, and Aprilia mapped the Tuono accordingly. The engine itself is the RS unit with a softer first two thousand revolutions.
Starting From Zero
An empty map means the motorcycle runs exactly as it did before, because every correction is nought. That is the safest possible starting point and it is where every session should begin.
Altitude and Temperature
The standard controller compensates using its own sensors and this unit applies its map on top. A map developed at sea level still works in the mountains, only less precisely.
Comparing Two Maps
The software shows them side by side. That is how an owner learns which changes did something and which were imagination, and it is impossible with a fixed curve.
The Dyno Advantage
Repeatability. The same load at the same speed for as long as it takes, without traffic and without weather. That is what the hourly rate buys.
Interpolation Explained
Between two cells the unit blends the values proportionally. A map with a spike produces an engine with a spike, which is why smoothing is part of the work.
Two Riders
The map is in the motorcycle, not in the rider. Anybody who takes the bike out gets whatever was written last, which matters on a shared machine.
The Airbox Matters
Anything that changes intake flow changes the whole surface. Owners who modify the airbox after mapping have a mapping session ahead of them, not an adjustment.

Which exhaust, which filter, which fuel and which map file. That record is what makes a map reusable next season and what makes it worthless without.
