Access
The tank and often the airbox come off to reach the housing, which is why this job belongs in the same session as anything else under there.
Fewer Perishables
A moulded box full of reeds is one of the few genuinely consumable items bolted to a cylinder head. Replacing it with aluminium removes a future job.
What a Cracked Reed Does
It stops sealing in one direction, which lets exhaust gas travel back up the hose towards the airbox. The residue coats the filter and the inside of the box, and it is usually discovered by somebody looking for something else entirely.
A Repair as Much as a Deletion
On any Triumph past its first decade the reed housing is a component with a limited remaining life. Replacing it with aluminium removes a job that was coming rather than merely removing an emissions device.
A Job for the Same Session
The tank is already off for the electrical half, and taking it off twice for two twenty-minute jobs is a poor use of an evening. Doing both together is the obvious approach.
Twenty Minutes Once Exposed
The work itself is short. Everything else in the job is getting the tank and airbox out of the way.
