Values Hold Better
The R has depreciated less than the standard 675, because the specification is what buyers now look for in a used middleweight.

Fitted as standard, which sounds trivial and matters a great deal to anybody whose hands are not the size Triumph assumed.
The Reed Pack on the Head
A moulded housing holding one reed per port, bolted directly to the cylinder head and fed by a hose from the airbox. It is what physically admits the air.
One Session
With the tank already off for other work, the cover adds perhaps twenty minutes. Done on its own it costs an evening.
An Inspection Would Find Nothing
Original fasteners, original torque and an unmarked head face. The exchange leaves no evidence beyond the cover itself.
Access and Sequence
The tank comes off and frequently the airbox as well, which is why this belongs in the same session as the electrical half or as any other work under there. On its own it costs an evening for twenty minutes of actual effort.
Why an O-Ring and Not a Gasket
A machined face against a rubber ring seals reliably and separates cleanly years later. Paper and compound both bond to the head over time and have to be scraped off, which is how sealing faces get damaged.
Not the Electrical Fault
The dashboard warning comes from the solenoid circuit and nothing else. Fitting the cover without addressing that circuit leaves the lamp exactly where it was, which surprises a fair number of people.
Where the Soot Shows
Inside the airbox and on the filter, downstream of a cracked reed. It is the cheapest diagnosis available on the whole system.
