Simple by Design
No riding modes on the early bikes and very little electronics. Owners who wanted a straightforward motorcycle found one, which is rarer than it should be.
A Kilogram and a Half
Vessel, bracket, valve, hoses and clips together, carried high. The figure is small and the position makes it worth more than the scales suggest.
Hard Starting With a Full Tank
The clearest single symptom of a saturated bed, and almost nobody notices the pattern. Owners chase batteries and injectors before anybody mentions the canister.
A Component With No Diagnostic
Nothing on the motorcycle reports a saturated bed. There is no code, no warning and no service check, which is why the symptoms get blamed elsewhere.
Winter Condensation
Water collects in lines running from a warm tank to a cold vessel, and a hard frost can block the narrowest bend. It is a seasonal and non-obvious fault.
Older Bikes First
The case for removal strengthens with age, because the bed degrades whether the motorcycle is ridden or left standing in a garage.
What a Dealer Would Say
Stop at the click and do not top up afterwards. It is the best advice available for keeping an evaporative system alive and almost nobody is given it.
Why Owners Remove It
It is a plastic drum with several hoses and a purge valve, tucked into whatever space Ducati could find, and on most models that space is exactly where an exhaust, a shock reservoir or a set of luggage brackets wants to go. Removing it frees a genuinely useful volume and takes a surprising amount of hose out of the motorcycle.
Hoses Are Not All the Same
The lines between tank, canister and intake carry vapour rather than liquid fuel and are sized accordingly. Reusing one as a vent line because it happens to be the right length is the kind of shortcut that works until a hot day, and it is not worth the twenty minutes it saves.
