This panel spends its life where nobody looks: underneath the tail, above the silencer, between the exhaust and whatever the owner has decided to keep under the seat. Its job is to stop heat arriving somewhere it is not wanted, and on a motorcycle with a four-cylinder engine and a short exhaust run that is real work rather than decoration.

The Part That Ages First
Plastic in this location does not break; it goes brittle, discolours and eventually cracks around its own fixing points. Owners usually discover it when the tail comes off for something else. A cured epoxy laminate does not soften in the same way, which is the honest practical reason to change it rather than any claim about insulation.
What it does not do is turn a warm seat cold. Heat arrives at a rider through the seat base and the frame as well as through this panel, and no single part changes that on its own.
Fitment and Compatibility
BMW S1000R, model years 2013 to 2020, on the original fixings. Fullsix lists the same article for the S1000RR of 2015 to 2018, which uses the same tail structure and exhaust routing. The 2021 machine is not covered.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes neither an ABE nor an EC type-approval number for this part. Treat it as a replacement trim panel and confirm the position for your own registration before road use.
Finish, Since You Will Not See It
This is the one panel in the range where the finish choice is genuinely free. Bolted up, only the edges show, and only with the seat removed. Matt is marginally the better choice because it hides handling marks from the one occasion a year it gets touched, and clear coat is easier to wipe clean of the fine grit that collects under a tail unit.
