DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fitting this header invalidates the EC and ECE certificate of the Akrapovic slip-on already on the motorcycle. Akrapovic prints that itself, and it is the single most important thing on this page: a road-legal Hornet becomes a track Hornet the moment this part goes on.
Key Features
- Voids the EC and ECE certificate of the Slip-On Line (Carbon)
- 1.8 kg lighter than Honda's header — 53.5 per cent
- Larger diameter tubing for less restricted gas flow
- The standard catalytic converter is removed with the header
- 2.2 hp more at 9,500 rpm and 3.5 Nm more at 6,700 rpm
- Plug and play; remapping recommended rather than required
- Closed course competition use only
The Certificate Question, In Full
The Akrapovic Slip-On Line (Carbon) for the CB750 Hornet is type approved and can be ridden on the road. This header is not, and Akrapovic states that fitting it invalidates that certificate.
The two parts are sold separately and only one of them is legal. That is not a contradiction in the range — the header exists for riders who have decided the bike is a track machine — but it needs saying before the order rather than after.
Where the Power Comes From
Two things happen at once. The tubing is larger in diameter, which lets the exhaust flow with less restriction, and the standard catalytic converter comes out with the old header.
The result Akrapovic measures is 1.6 kW — 2.2 hp — more at 9,500 rpm, with 3.5 Nm more at 6,700. Those are the figures for the header working together with the carbon slip-on, not for the header alone.
Half the Weight
1.8 kg saved, which Akrapovic gives as 53.5 per cent of the standard header assembly. Most of that is the converter and its shielding, sitting low and forward under the engine.
On a 190 kg naked bike the effect is modest in absolute terms and useful in placement: it is the lowest, most central mass on the motorcycle.
Remapping: Recommended, Not Mandatory
Akrapovic is specific about the wording. The engine will run on the standard map with this header fitted, and it will run better after a remap. That is a different statement from the mandatory remaps some systems in this catalogue require.
On a Euro 5+ machine with two lambda sensors the engine check light will come on once the ECU notices the converter is gone. That is expected behaviour, not a fault.
The 755 cc Twin
Honda's 755 cc parallel twin arrived in 2023 in the CB750 Hornet, making around 92 PS. It is a light, cheap, quick motorcycle and it has found an audience with riders who want a naked bike without a litre-class price.
Akrapovic uses the same engine in a second header, E-H7R7, for the XL750 Transalp — the adventure bike built around it. The two headers are different parts and are not interchangeable.
Plug and Play
Akrapovic describes the installation as easy and plug and play. The header bolts to the cylinder head and to the existing slip-on, with no fabrication and no adapters.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and it removes the approval the slip-on had.
