This is the part that completes the Monster's Akrapovic system. The slip-on S-D12SO8-RTBL cannot be fitted alone — it needs either a link pipe or this header — and choosing the header is what turns it into a full exhaust rather than a silencer swap.

The Valve System Comes Out
Ducati fits an exhaust valve to the Monster to shape the noise and the low-rev fuelling for homologation. This header removes it entirely.
That is worth understanding before ordering. Losing the valve is part of why the header finds 4.8 PS, and it is also part of why the system cannot be type approved. The measured 3.5 Nm at 4,850 rpm shows the low-rev delivery holds up without it, but the engine's behaviour below three thousand will be different from standard.
Monster 1200 and Monster 821
Ducati's air-cooled-look Testastretta twin ran in two capacities across these years and both share the header route. One part covers the 1200 and the 821, including the S and R trims.
What It Cannot Do Alone
A header is not a complete exhaust. On the Monster the slip-on S-D12SO8-RTBL requires either the link pipe L-D12SO2 or this header, and the two options are not equivalent: the link pipe keeps the system closer to standard, while this header replaces the whole path from the cylinder heads back and delivers the figures above.
Note also that the header does not fit the Monster 1200 R. If your registration document says 1200 R, ask us before ordering.
The Heat Shield Stays
Ducati's standard heat shield can be reused with this header, which is unusual — most aftermarket headers need their own. An optional Akrapovic carbon shield is available if you want the matching finish, but nothing forces the purchase.
On a Monster that matters more than it sounds. The header runs close to the rider's right leg, and a bike without a shield there is a bike you notice in traffic on a hot day.
