DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ducati built the Panigale 959 Corse in racing colours, and plenty of standard 959s also spend their weekends on a circuit. For that kind of riding Accossato offers the DKS035, an Elite-line floating disc for the front wheel of the Ducati Panigale 959, listed from 2016 to 2019. It has a 5.5 mm friction ring, a black carrier and rivets that carry the Accossato logo. On a track, where one hard stop follows the next, the front discs are the parts that take the heat.
Key Features
- Elite-line floating front disc for the Ducati Panigale 959, 2016 to 2019
- 5.5 mm friction ring, as stated by the supplier
- 320 mm outside diameter, 72 mm centre
- Black carrier; logo on the rivets
- Listed for the 959 and the 959 Corse
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Price for one disc; two are needed at the front
- No German ABE documented; intended for circuit use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds its Elite discs around a 5.5 mm ring, fixed to a black carrier by rivets stamped with the company's logo. The joint is deliberately not rigid. When the ring heats up over a series of stops it expands, and the floating mount allows it to do so without pulling the carrier out of shape. Accossato describes long study of exactly this interface, the clearance between ring and carrier, together with a careful choice of materials, and ties both to its racing work in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The outer diameter is 320 mm and the centre opening 72 mm.
Heat on a Track Day
A road ride rarely asks the front brakes for more than a few hard stops in a row. A track day is different. A single lap of a tight circuit can bring half a dozen heavy stops, with only seconds in between for the discs to shed heat, and on a summer afternoon the air offers little help. The signs of excess temperature are easy to read afterwards: a blue or straw-coloured tint on the ring, pads with a glazed surface, and a lever that begins to travel further towards the end of a session.
Give the discs a chance. Use the out lap to bring them up to temperature gradually and the in lap to let them cool, rather than parking the Panigale 959 in the pit lane with the lever pulled hard, which can press hot pad material onto one spot of the ring. Between sessions look at discs and pads while the bike cools, and check the lever feel before going out again. If the discs lose thickness quickly over a season of track days, measure them against the printed minimum; Accossato points out that a worn disc can break under extreme load.
Fitment and Compatibility
The DKS035 is listed by Accossato for the Panigale 959 with the years 2016 to 2019, for the standard 959 and for the 959 Corse. Each disc is sold on its own, and the front of the Panigale 959 carries two, so a full change needs two DKS035. Accossato also lists the standard DK053 front disc and the DK008 rear disc for this bike.
Road Approval
For the DKS035 there is no German ABE on record and no type approval. We supply it for the racetrack and for competition.
