DescriptionThe whole story▼
A secondhand KTM 125 SX from before 2016 is how plenty of riders get into motocross, and the levers are among the first things worth checking on such a bike. Bent or shortened blades, a stub where the ball end used to be, a lever sitting at an odd angle: each says something about the bike's earlier life. Accossato's C7284, a clutch lever with a folding blade milled from Ergal 7075, covers the 125 SX of 2009 to 2015 and makes sense as one of the first parts on a used bike.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the KTM 125 SX, 2009 to 2015
- Listed for the 2009–2013 and the 2014–2015 bikes
- Takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mount
- Four-finger blade, the longer of Accossato's two off-road designs
- Anti-break joint: the blade can fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075, made in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7284 is assembled from a base in a dark finish, fixed on the pivot of the clutch mount, and a blade in black, blue or orange that meets it at the folding joint. Accossato machines both from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC equipment in Italy. The aluminium alloy is used for its high strength, and the company's aim is a lever that is light, strong and dependable. Being a clutch lever, the blade is long and meant for four fingers.
What the Old Levers Tell You
Buyers of used motocross bikes learn to read small signs. A clutch lever with a rough, filed end has usually been broken in a crash and tidied up afterwards. Scrapes along the outside of the blade suggest the bike has been dropped on its left side more than once. None of this rules out a good purchase, since motocross bikes fall over, but it tells you what to replace first. A fresh clutch lever is one of the simplest ways to make an older 125 SX feel tidy and predictable again.
Replacing like with like, though, only resets the clock until the next fall. The C7284 works differently: its blade sits on a joint, so a crash that pushes it forward can fold it away instead of snapping it off. That does not make it immune, but a rider on a new-to-them 125 SX, still learning its limits and likely to crash a few times while doing so, has a better chance of ending the day with a working clutch. The company behind it started out in 1969 at Moncalieri, outside Turin, building competition motorcycles.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato covers two version groups of the KTM 125 SX with the C7284, 2009 to 2013 and 2014 to 2015, fitting it at the original clutch mount. From 2016 the bike needs the C7283 instead. On the brake side the B8283 fits from 2014, so the owner of a 2014 or 2015 125 SX can fit folding levers on both sides, in black, blue or orange. For the 2009 to 2013 bikes, this clutch lever is the only folding option in the range.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for this lever. It is sold for motocross and closed off-road use, the purpose the 125 SX was built for.
