DescriptionThe whole story▼
The GSX-S1000 is Suzuki's naked roadster with an engine derived from the GSX-R1000, and most owners use it on the road: to work, to the café, into town. That means kerbside parking, which has its own ways of damaging a bike. The Accossato LV020 is a folding brake lever for the GSX-S1000 of 2016 to 2019, designed for the original radial master cylinder. It has a black base with a reach adjuster and a coloured blade that can fold at the joint between them.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the Suzuki GSX-S1000, 2016 to 2019
- Designed for the original radial brake master cylinder
- Blade can fold at its joint if the bike tips over
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Eight colours, titanium included
- RST or NRST blade
- Standard length, anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
Construction and Material Quality
On a naked bike the levers are always on show, so their finish matters more than behind a fairing. The two parts of the LV020 are CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, which colours the surface of the metal rather than painting over it. The base, which sits on the pivot of the radial master cylinder and holds the reach adjuster, is always black. The blade comes in black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver or titanium, in two forms: with the RST lightening opening or without it. A joint connects blade and base and lets the blade fold.
The Camber Trap
Roads are built with a camber so that rain runs off towards the gutter, and that slope catches out motorcyclists who park at the kerb. A GSX-S1000 on its side stand leans to the left. Park it on the right-hand side of a road, where the surface drops towards the kerb, and the slope pushes the bike more upright than usual. It will stand, but with little margin, and a gust of wind, a passing lorry or a pedestrian brushing against it can be enough to tip it over to the right, onto the brake lever. A fixed lever then meets the kerb or the tarmac with its full length. A folding blade may swing aside, which reduces the chance of coming back to a bent lever. The better fix is to avoid the situation altogether: park at right angles to the kerb, rear wheel towards it, so the camber runs along the bike rather than across it, and leave it in gear. With the wide bar of the GSX-S1000 placing the lever tip well outboard, that habit is worth adopting.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the LV020 for the GSX-S1000 from 2016 to 2019, under the entry GSX-S 1000, for the original radial master cylinder. The LV022 is listed for the same years as a second folding version. Accossato also makes a fixed brake lever for this bike, the EDF035, listed from 2015 to 2021.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for this GSX-S1000 lever, and it is sold for the track.
