DescriptionThe whole story▼
Matt black is the version that reads as equipment rather than as styling, and on a dual-sport helmet carried on a bike with luggage and guards that is usually the right register.
Four SHARP stars — the only MT helmet that has any
🔵 This is the specification that separates the Track SV from every other MT helmet: an independent 4-star SHARP rating from April 2026. Nothing else in the range has been tested at all.
SHARP subjects each helmet to thirty-two impacts across seven sites at three speeds. Four of five stars puts the Track SV above the middle of the distribution, on a helmet costing 136 €.
About the matt black finish
Consider how this helmet is actually used: strapped to a pannier, set on a tank bag, carried by the peak, wiped with whatever is to hand at a fuel stop. That is not gentle treatment, and a flat finish absorbs the resulting low-level marking far better than gloss — there is no clear coat for a scuff to sit in. Dry dust is the one thing matt shows more of, and dust washes off. 🔵 The trade to weigh is conspicuity: this is the least visible version in the range, on a helmet often ridden on unlit roads far from home. Matt is washed, never polished — abrasive polish leaves a permanent shiny patch that cannot be undone. And on a helmet whose four SHARP stars are the reason to buy it, spending the decision on a finish that makes you harder to see is worth thinking about twice.
Dual-sport — a full-face with a peak
🔵 „Dual-sport" covers two quite different things. Some helmets are road helmets with a decorative peak; others are off-road helmets with a visor added. The Track SV is the first kind — SHARP classifies it as a full-face — which is why it works as well as it does on tarmac.
For genuinely hard off-road use, a goggle-aperture competition helmet is the better tool.
HIRP, ECE 22.06 — and two different weights
🔵 Note what is not here: unlike MT's Cosmo SV, Braker SV and Atom 2 SV, the Track SV carries ECE 22.06 only — no DOT approval. MT's own material lists no DOT marking, and we are not going to claim one.
Irrelevant for European riding; worth knowing if the helmet will ever be used in the United States.
The MT-ESP retractable sun visor
🔵 A tinted visor is not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. A retractable shield sidesteps that entirely — it is up when the light goes.
The HS-12 main visor stays clear behind it.
The HS-12 visor and the anti-fog insert you buy separately
🔵 The Pinlock code for this helmet is DKS 623, and it is specific to the HS-12 visor. It does not interchange with the DKS435, DKS512 or DKS279 lenses used on other MT models — order by designation rather than by helmet name.
A FogOff insert is the compatible alternative, and neither comes in the box.
ERS — the Emergency Release System
🔵 Why side-pad release matters. The cheek pads are what hold a helmet on your head once the strap is undone, which is why they have to come out before a full-face can be safely removed from someone lying injured.
The ERS system lets that be done quickly and without tools.
Interior, fit and intercom preparation
🔵 Quick-drying is a genuine functional choice rather than a trade name. An adventure helmet is worn while sweating hard, washed more often than a road helmet, and frequently needed again the following day — padding that dries overnight is worth more than padding that feels marginally softer.
The treatment is antibacterial, which slows the skin irritation a well-used liner otherwise causes.
The micrometric closure
🔵 A double-tooth engagement is what makes the lock feel positive rather than approximate. A ratchet with a single shallow tooth can work loose over time; a double-tooth design is considerably harder to release by accident.
Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.
Where it sits in MT's range
🔵 Against MT's road full-face helmets — the Braker SV at 115 € and the Thunder 4 R SV at 157 € — the Track SV adds a peak and off-road capability, and is the only one of the three with a SHARP rating.
What it gives up: the Braker's DOT approval and the Thunder's supplied Pinlock lens.
When something wears out
🔵 The peak is the part most likely to be damaged, because it is the part that projects. A replacement costs a fraction of a helmet, which is worth knowing before writing one off after a drop.
Visors, Pinlock lenses, sun shields, cheek pads and liners are all stocked alongside it.
