Colour / finishRunway B2 — gloss black with grey graphic
DescriptionThe whole story

Runway is the only graphic family on this shell, and B2 carries it in black and grey — a tonal treatment rather than a coloured one, which is the more restrained of the two options here.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 A helmet carrying two approval marks — ECE 22.06 and DOT — can look comprehensively protective at 47 €. Both certify this helmet as an open-face, on schedules that do not test a chin bar because there is none.

Everything the standards do cover, the Street S meets, and to the current ECE revision rather than the superseded 22.05.

About the Runway B2 graphic

Tonal graphics age far better than coloured ones because colours belong to seasons and values do not. A black and grey treatment reads as design rather than as a marker of when the helmet was bought, which on a model that has been in MT's catalogue since 2016 is worth something. It is also the best version here at hiding dirt, since both values are dark enough to absorb city road film. The grey elements do add something the plain black lacks: a mid value that is meaningfully easier to pick out in flat overcast light than pure black. 🔵 It is 4 € more than the Pure versions and nothing else about the helmet changes — the graphics buy artwork, not capability. Of the two Runway finishes this is the one that will still look current in five years, because a tonal scheme carries no reference to a particular season's palette. It is also the version that suits a scooter finished in almost any colour, which the red-accented Runway does not — a black-and-grey helmet sits with everything, and that is worth more on a helmet you will own for years than a colour match you like today.

The cheapest helmet MT makes — and what that means

🔵 Be clear about who this helmet is for. A first jet, a spare kept at work, a helmet for a pillion, or a scooter used for errands. For all four it is a sensible purchase at current certification.

For a daily commute at road speeds, the extra 25 € for MT's Viale SV S buys a sun visor and a washable interior.

What this helmet does not have

No sun visor means glare is handled by sunglasses or by a tinted visor, and MT supplies the clear one. On a scooter used mostly in daylight that is workable; on a westbound evening commute it is not ideal.

🔵 MT's Viale SV S adds a drop-down shield for 25 € more, and the Cosmo SV a full-coverage one for 59 € more.

HIRP, 1025 grams, ECE 22.06 and DOT

Full ECE 22.06 approval means the current schedule rather than the superseded 22.05: more impact points, higher test speeds, and a rotational-impact assessment the older standard did not include. DOT approval sits alongside it.

🔵 On a helmet at this price that combination is the single most important thing about it.

The long MT-V-15B visor

🔵 A note on tinted visors and the law. Fixed dark visors are not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries, and the rules differ between them. With no internal sun shield on this helmet, that means carrying the clear one whenever the ride might end after dark.

The clear MT-V-15B is supplied as standard.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

🔵 A loose strap is the most common way a helmet fails to do its job, and on an open-face it matters more than usual — there are no full cheek pads gripping the jaw to help hold the helmet in place.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure adjusts finely enough to get it right. Check it periodically.

Cleaning a helmet with a fixed liner

🔵 Never use solvents, petrol or alcohol-based cleaners on a thermoplastic shell. HIRP is a polymer, and solvents attack polymers — the damage is invisible at first and structural afterwards.

Warm water and mild soap, on the shell and on the visor. Nothing else.

Choosing the right size

A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The lining beds in slightly over the first few hours of use, so a helmet that feels perfect on day one will usually be a little looser by the end of the first season.

🔵 Start tighter than comfortable rather than the other way round.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 If you want chin protection, MT's Stinger 2 full-face costs 38 € more than this helmet. That is a larger protective difference than anything else you can buy at this end of the market, and it is worth weighing before choosing a jet on price alone.

What the Street S gives you instead is 575 g less weight and an open face.

When something wears out

🔵 A word on visor care, because on this helmet it is most of the maintenance available. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

Wet it first, every time, and replace it when it is badly marked.
