DescriptionThe whole story▼

White is the version that answers this helmet's one documented weakness. Independent testing measured excellent airflow, but a second reviewer found the same insulation stuffy in hot weather — and a pale shell absorbs far less solar heat.

Two independent tests — and where they disagree

🔵 The noise verdict is the one worth reading carefully. One test measured 103 dB at 130 km/h and scored it 3/5; another, riding the same helmet, described the wind noise as minimal and credited the large chin curtain and anti-noise neck roll.

Measurement and impression diverge on noise more than on any other specification. Both findings are reported here.

About the white finish

The thermal argument is unusually specific here. The X.TR is insulated for quiet — a large chin curtain, an anti-noise neck roll — and one hands-on test noted that the same insulation makes it warm when the temperature climbs. Shell colour is the one variable you control that changes solar load directly: a white helmet reflects energy a black one converts into interior heat. On a touring helmet used in southern Europe in August, that is a functional choice rather than a styling one. 🔵 The cost is dirt — insects and road film show sooner on white than on anything else here.

The X-Matrix2 shell

X-Matrix2 is Nexx's multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite rather than plain glass, and it is the construction the lower half of this range uses. Three outer shell sizes across eight helmet sizes keeps the volume honest at both ends.

Claimed weight 1750 g ±50; the carbon version is quoted 125 g lighter.

Shell Construction Weight (Nexx) Decors
X-Matrix2 multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite 1750 g ±50 Plain, Quanta
X-PRO Carbon carbon fibre 1625 g Rush, Zero Pro, Atlantic

X-Block N'Seal — a visor that locks

🔵 The Pinlock lens here is the 120 XLT rather than the 70 used on Nexx's other helmets — a higher-clarity grade. It is fitted from the factory, and it is the correct specification for a touring helmet used in cold and wet conditions.

Order replacements by the 120 XLT MaxVision designation rather than by a generic Pinlock code.

The ultra-wide sun visor

🔵 How far a sun visor drops decides whether it is useful. One that stops short leaves a bright band exactly at eye level on a westbound evening road. The X.TR's reaches to just above the bridge of the nose.

It retracts fully, so it is not sitting in your upper vision when raised.

Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer

🔵 Vibration is the fatigue you cannot point to at the end of a long ride — not noise, not weight, but a constant fine buffeting through the shell. On a helmet built for distance, addressing it structurally makes more sense than adding padding.

A rubber trim between the two EPS shells lets the inner one move fractionally instead of transmitting everything.

Two intakes, two chambers — and a 5/5 measurement

🔵 A caution about vent counts. Two intakes here measured 5/5 where seven on Nexx's own adventure helmet measured 1/5 in the same reviewer's testing. The count tells you almost nothing; placement and internal air path tell you everything.

The X.TR's path runs through the gap between the inner and outer EPS.

Chin curtain, neck roll and how quiet it is

🔵 The anti-noise neck roll is the part most riders never think about and the part that does most of the work. Most perceived helmet noise enters from below the chin bar rather than around the visor, and a deep neck roll closes that path.

Combined with the large chin curtain, it is why one reviewer described this helmet's noise as minimal.

Interior, retention and fit

🔵 Both independent tests agreed on comfort, which is unusual: 4/5 in the scored one, „remarkably comfortable out of the box" in the other. Fit was true to size in both, for an intermediate oval head shape.

That is the strongest agreement in the X.TR's independent record.

1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 This is a substantial helmet at 1750 g ±50, and the reason is structural rather than careless: two EPS shells with a rubber interlayer, a sun visor mechanism, a locking visor system and a rear spoiler.

The carbon version saves 125 g at a higher price.

Comms, camera and spare parts

🔵 Mesh 3.0 networking is the specification that matters if you ride in a group. It keeps riders connected without pairing every rider to every other, and it re-forms the network automatically when someone drops out of range.

The X-COM3 integrates into this shell rather than clamping to it, and is sold separately.
