DescriptionThe whole story▼
Wearing a helmet for hours on a trackday or a long sport ride should never feel like a compromise — and with the KYT R1R Plain Matte Black, it does not. Three years of wind-tunnel development and real-world testing on both road and circuit have produced a racing shell that wraps around your head with confidence from the first kilometre to the last, backed by a Hydrocool interior that keeps you cool, dry and focused when it matters most.
Key Features
- Tricomposite shell combining carbon, aramid fibres and fibreglass — exceptional impact absorption at just approx. 1,450 g ± 50 g (size M)
- ECE 22.06 certified for road and circuit use
- Panoramic visor field — 90° vertical, 210° horizontal — with optical Class 1 clarity, scratch resistance and UV380 protection
- Rototranslation visor mechanism with metal racing lock prevents accidental opening at speed; tool-free visor swap in seconds
- Hydrocool antibacterial liner with emergency quick-release cheek pads — removable, washable and replaceable
- Advanced airflow system: large front intake, chin vent, dual side inlets and rear Venturi spoiler extraction
- Stainless steel double-D retention ring — the accepted standard for serious track riding
All-Day Comfort and Fit
The R1R is built around the understanding that comfort and performance are the same thing on a long run. Three shell sizes (S, M and L outer shells) mean the helmet sits correctly on your head rather than compensating with padding alone — a detail that makes an enormous difference over a full trackday or a cross-country sport ride. The Hydrocool textile liner wicks heat and moisture away rapidly, maintaining a cool and dry feel even when the pace is high. Should you ever need roadside assistance, the emergency quick-release cheek pads allow first responders to remove the helmet safely and quickly. Glasses wearers are fully accommodated thanks to the dedicated channel system in the cheek pads, and speaker cut-outs make the R1R compatible with most Bluetooth intercom systems without modification.
Tricomposite Shell Construction
KYT developed the R1R shell through direct knowledge gained in MotoGP-level programmes. The combination of carbon, aramid fibres and fibreglass is layered and balanced to deliver high impact resistance while keeping the weight to approximately 1,450 g ± 50 g in size M — a figure that reduces neck fatigue noticeably on extended rides or repeated circuit sessions. The outer surface carries a clean, matte plain black finish that pairs no-nonsense aesthetics with a surface that hides minor marks far better than gloss.
Visor System and Visibility
The R1R's visor system is engineered to the same standard as the shell. The rototranslation mechanism seals perfectly at every speed, while the metal racing lock eliminates any risk of the visor lifting unexpectedly mid-corner. The included Pinlock MaxVision 70 insert keeps the screen fog-free in cold or wet conditions. The visor is also compatible with tear-offs for circuit use. With 90° of vertical travel and a 210° horizontal field, the R1R gives a genuine panoramic view — particularly useful when tucked behind a screen in an aggressive riding position.
Ventilation
A large forehead air intake, a dedicated chin vent and two additional side inlets channel fresh air through the interior, while the rear Venturi-effect spoiler actively draws stale air out. The result is steady circulation that supports concentration during intense riding without creating turbulence or unwanted lift at motorway speeds.
Fitment and Compatibility
The KYT R1R is a universal full-face racing helmet suitable for all riders seeking a lightweight, ECE 22.06 compliant lid for road, trackday and circuit use. It is available in sizes XS through XXL. For a performance fit, the helmet should feel snug — a slightly firm initial fit is normal and will ease as the liner beds in. Glasses wearers can use the R1R without restriction thanks to the integrated spectacle channel in the cheek pads.
