DescriptionThe whole story

Plain White is the cheapest Y.10 and the most rational one for a helmet that will spend its life in traffic. A pale shell at head height is the single brightest thing a rider carries, and city riding is where that matters most.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 The Y.10 is an open-face helmet. It has no chin bar, and ECE 22-06's jet category makes no provision for chin or jaw protection — a substantial share of impacts land in exactly that region.

It is the right tool for relaxed urban riding at city speeds. For higher speeds or long distances, a full-face gives more protection and more weather cover, and we would rather say so.

About the white finish

Urban riding is the condition in which a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through — a driver pulling out of a side road has a fraction of a second, in cluttered light, against a busy background. A white helmet sits above the headlight, exactly where the eye scans. There is a thermal benefit alongside it that matters more on an open-face than on a full-face, because you are already choosing this helmet for airflow: a pale shell reflects solar load rather than converting it into interior heat. 🔵 The cost is dirt. City road film shows on white sooner than on anything else here, and the helmet will need washing more often than a dark one.

Polyfusion, two shells and three approvals

The shell is Polyfusion thermoplastic — compact, impact-resistant and injection-moulded — in two outer shell sizes (XXS–L / XL–XXL), so the helmet stays in proportion rather than one shell being scaled across the whole range.

🔵 Approvals: ECE 22-06 (UN), DOT FMVSS 218 and NBR7471:2015. Note there is no CCC certification on this model, unlike Nexx's X-range.

The sun visor, the peak — and the clear visor that is not there

Eye protection here is an integrated, ultra-wide drop-down sun visor — lightly tinted, deployed and retracted by a fine tab on the edge of the lens itself rather than by a slider on the shell.

🔵 No clear outer visor is supplied. The box contains the helmet and a peak. In rain or after dark you will want glasses or goggles — a lightly tinted shield is not a night-riding solution.

Airflow on an open-face

Ventilation on an open-face is a different problem from a full-face's, because the largest air intake is the face opening itself. Nexx describes the Y.10's as an active system tuned for urban climate control rather than for high-speed airflow.

🔵 Some versions carry an integrated top vent with a two-stage mechanism. It is version-dependent rather than standard across the range — check the version you are buying.

Interior, glasses and the buckle

The liner is fully removable, washable and breathable, and its slim shape is deliberately cut to work with glasses — which on a helmet put on and taken off several times a journey is the difference between a feature and a daily annoyance.

Retention is a micrometric quick-release buckle: fast, adjustable in fine steps and workable in gloves.

Intercom — and the 45 mm limit

The helmet is prepared for universal communication systems with audio sets up to 45 mm — universal rather than proprietary, so the intercom you already own will fit.

🔵 No system is supplied. The 45 mm figure is worth checking against your speakers before buying; larger drivers will not sit properly in the recesses.

1325 grams, and the rest of the honest list

At 1325 g ±50 this is the lightest helmet Nexx makes, and on a jet the mass sits lower and further forward than on a full-face — so it feels lighter still.

🔵 The honest list: no chin bar, no clear visor supplied, no independent safety rating, and loud above city speeds. In exchange, a helmet you will actually put on for a five-minute journey.

Choosing the right size

Measure the circumference of your head around the widest part, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare it against the chart below. The Y.10 runs from XXS to XXL across two outer shell sizes.

🔵 Between two sizes, most riders take the larger one on this helmet. But a helmet you can rotate on your head by hand is too big, whatever the tape says.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is separately available: the liner, the padding, the peak and the drop-down sun visor. On a helmet used daily in a city, that is what decides whether it lasts three years or one.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from the outside.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

The Y.10 is the entry point to Nexx's range and the only open-face in it. Above it, the Y.100R is the full-face on a related Polyfusion platform — more protection, more weather cover, roughly 250 g heavier.

🔵 If your riding includes anything faster than city speeds, that is the helmet to look at instead.

In the box

  • Peak
  • 🔵 No clear visor — the integrated drop-down shield is lightly tinted and is the only screen supplied
  • 🔵 No intercom — the helmet is prepared for universal systems up to 45 mm; the system is a separate purchase

“A clean, understated jet with a proper drop-down sun visor and a wide adjustable shield, at 1,225 g. It has less presence than the Shoei J.O2 but costs a third as much and is easier to live with day to day.”
