DescriptionThe whole story▼
Golden Dune puts a single gold treatment over exposed carbon weave — the most restrained way of adding a colour to a bare shell without covering it. One accent, one construction, nothing else competing.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
The claim is specific and worth reading precisely: a rubber layer between the inner and outer EPS lets the inner EPS micro-move, reducing vibration caused by air turbulence at higher speeds. Nexx does not extend it beyond that, and neither do we.
🔵 For impact energy, the working parts are the EPS itself and the X-Foam bumpers on the chin and sides.
About the Golden Dune Carbon finish
Single-accent finishes on exposed weave age far better than full liveries, because the carbon does most of the visual work and the accent carries no reference to a season's palette. This helmet will look the same in five years as it does now, which is not true of any of the multi-colour graphics here. Gold against dark weave also gives the shell a reference point that pure carbon lacks, so the shape reads more clearly from a distance. 🔵 The exposed areas carry the usual caveat: a scratch into the weave cannot be repaired, and an adventure helmet meets stones. If that worries you, the painted carbon versions use the identical shell.
The X-PRO Carbon shell and the X-Foam bumpers
Nexx builds the X.WED3 in two constructions and this is the carbon one. X-PRO Carbon, claimed at 1725 g, 65 g under the X-Matrix2 hybrid composite and priced above it.
🔵 Both carry ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015, and both use the same X-Foam bumpers at the chin and sides.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass + 3D organic fibre, Kevlar/aramid, carbon reinforced | 1790 g ±50 | Plain, GOBI |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1725 g | Wild Pro, KEYO, FURKA, Zero Pro, Golden Dune |
F.R.S.® — both cheek pads at once
Two rubberised locking arms, two red slide buttons, both cheek pads out at once. F.R.S.® is deliberately mechanical and deliberately obvious — anything that has to work for a stranger under pressure should be.
Routine use is cleaning; the design case is emergency removal with minimal head and neck movement.
Recoil visor, sun visor and the second shield in the box
Visor changes are tool-free and quick, which matters here because you have two visors to swap between and a peak that comes on and off. The Recoil base plates re-tension automatically each time; there is no adjustment to get wrong.
🔵 The internal sun visor stays in place through all of it — it is behind the outer visor, not part of it.
Seven intakes — and a measurement that disagrees
🔵 The honest position: this helmet's ventilation design is more sophisticated than its measured performance. Seven closable intakes, four exhausts, a patent-pending inter-EPS chamber and an alveolar-mesh crown pad — against an independent scored result of 1 out of 5.
Both are on this page because you should decide with both in front of you.
How loud it actually is
🔵 Everything that makes the X.WED3 capable off-road makes it loud on it: the peak, the wide goggle-capable aperture and seven intakes. The peak's tool-free removal exists so you can unwind part of that when the surface changes.
Measured with peak and visor fitted: 103 dB at 130 km/h, scored 3 out of 5.
Interior, materials and fit
🔵 Two independent findings on fit, both worth having. The scored road test called it true to size with an intermediate-to-long oval head shape and rated comfort 3.5/5.
Roomy helmets suit long days and glasses; they need checking for movement before you buy. Ten minutes with the helmet on tells you more than any description.
1725 grams, and the rest of the honest list
Weight is the specification this helmet loses on and the one it cannot fix, because the features that make it interesting are the features that make it heavy. 1725 g claimed for the carbon shell.
🔵 Alongside it: measured ventilation of 1/5, measured noise of 103 dB at 130 km/h, and no independent safety rating in either shell.
Goggles, comms, camera and spare parts
The serviceable parts list on this helmet is longer than most: peak, peak extensor, both visors, Pinlock lens, cheek pads, crown pad and chin-strap covers.
🔵 Between them they cover everything except the shell, the two-part EPS and the X-Foam bumper layer — none of which is replaceable after an impact.
