Two air filters can both be described as fine and still work in entirely different ways. The P08 that usually sits in this airbox is a woven cloth — threads crossing at a calculated spacing, stopping whatever will not pass between them, and doing nearly all of that at the face it turns towards the air. The P14 inside the PM200P14 is not woven at all. It is a dry special nonwoven: fibres laid down as a mat with real thickness, catching particles at every level of that thickness instead of only at the top.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven medium, never oiled and never treated after a clean
- Rated 14 µm at 1,800 l/m²/sec, where the P08 in the same housing sits at 80 µm and 5,050
- Depth filtration: the load distributes through the mat rather than blinding one surface
- Roughly twice the working area of a typical performance filter, cut for the standard airbox
- Takes the place of the paper panel with nothing altered — no bracketry, no remap
- Washable and reusable, specified for the life of the motorcycle, two-year guarantee
Why thickness is the point, not just fineness
A woven medium rated at 14 µm would be an awkward thing to own. Everything it stopped would sit on one plane, and that plane would close up long before the rest of the filter had done any work. A mat has somewhere to put the dirt. Coarse particles are caught early in its depth, finer ones deeper in, and the passage that remains stays open far longer than the arithmetic of the rating suggests. That is why the fine number and the practical service life are not the same conversation.
What the 125 gives up for it
Flow, and the manufacturer states how much: 1,800 l/m²/sec instead of 5,050. That is the whole cost, and it is not hidden anywhere. A 124.7 cc single never asks for the upper figure, so on this machine the reserve being handed over is one that was sitting unused — but the honest framing is still a swap and not a promotion. Neither element makes a standard motorcycle noticeably quicker. What both do is hold intake restriction low and stop it climbing between services, and only one of the two is built for air with grit in it.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, held against the clean face and driven outward, sends the load back out through the side that collected it. When a dry spell leaves more behind than air will lift, wash the PM200P14 in lukewarm water with a mild washing-up detergent and rinse until nothing further comes away. Then it dries in open air and in nothing else — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame anywhere near it — and goes back in dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
