DescriptionThe whole story▼
For plenty of FJR1300A owners the summer tour starts on a ferry, to the islands, across the Channel or over to Scandinavia. Getting a loaded tourer aboard is a small test of clutch control. The ramp is steep and often wet, the steel deck is slippery, and a crew member waves you into a gap between a lorry and a car. The Accossato ESY688 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the FJR1300A of 2014 to 2016, with an adjustable reach so that the bite point is exactly where your fingers look for it when the space gets tight.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha FJR1300A, model years 2014 to 2016
- Fits at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjuster close to the pivot
- Standard blade roughly 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
- Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Rigid blade, no folding joint
- Sold for track use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688 is machined from solid aluminium and anodised in two tones, black at the hub and coloured on the blade. Machining gives the blade the same profile along its length, so the fingers find the same shape wherever they land, and the anodised surface stays smooth under gloved fingers. Around the pivot, the black hub also houses the adjuster that sets the reach. There is no hinge, and the lever is rigid from the pivot to the tip, so the clutch always answers the same movement in the same way.
Ferry Ramps and Steel Decks
Boarding a ferry combines everything that makes slow riding tricky: a steep and often wet ramp, a change of surface at the top, painted steel inside and tight gaps. The approach that works is to ride up the ramp in first gear at a steady speed, without stopping halfway, and to control your speed on the deck with the clutch rather than the throttle, the right hand ready on the front brake. That puts the fine control almost entirely in the left hand. With the reach set so the blade rests just in front of your fingers, you can hold the bike on the bite point at walking pace without stretching, and a sudden stop by the car in front does not catch you out. Once parked, leave the FJR1300A in gear before the crew straps it down, and on the way off, the same smooth clutch gets you down the ramp without a lurch.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688 for the FJR1300A of 2014 to 2016, divided on its list into the bikes of 2014 and 2015 and the 2016 model year. It replaces the stock clutch lever at the original mounting. On the brake side, the EDF016 covers a longer span of the FJR1300A, from 2006 to 2018, so the pair can be ordered in one colour.
Road Approval
No documented German ABE exists for the ESY688, so it is sold for the track.
