DescriptionThe whole story▼
The liquid-cooled R 1200 GS arrived for 2013 and took BMW's big adventure bike into a new generation, but the terrain its owners seek out stayed the same. At some point that includes a steep gravel descent, where a heavy motorcycle, a loose surface and gravity all push in the same direction. The Accossato EDB077 gives the R 1200 GS of 2013 to 2019 a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever with adjustable reach, so the smallest inputs are within easy range.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the liquid-cooled BMW R 1200 GS, 2013 to 2019
- Attaches to the factory master cylinder
- Distance to the grip set with an adjuster by the pivot
- Standard length approximately 138 mm, plus short and long blades
- Blade colours: black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver, green
- Machined on CNC equipment from aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Solid one-piece construction
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Every EDB077 for the R 1200 GS has two finishes: a black anodised hub and a blade anodised in the colour you choose. Both belong to one piece of aluminium, which is machined from solid stock on CNC equipment before it goes into the anodising bath. The hub contains the pivot hole and the adjuster that sets how far the blade stands off the grip. From there the blade runs uninterrupted to its end, without a hinge, so finger pressure reaches the master cylinder through a single rigid part.
Steep Descents on Loose Ground
On a steep descent, the weight of an R 1200 GS shifts onto the front wheel just where the surface has the least grip to spare. A sudden handful of front brake can make the tyre slide; no front brake at all lets the speed build. Riders who handle these slopes calmly let the engine hold the bike back in a low gear, use the rear brake as the main control and add the front in small, careful amounts, releasing it the moment the tyre starts to skip over the stones.
Those small amounts depend on where the lever sits. Standing on the pegs and leaning back slightly, you want to reach the blade with one or two fingers without loosening your grip on the bar. Bring the blade in until that is easy, and consider the short length, which is made in blue, gold, green, orange and silver and leaves the other fingers wrapped around the grip. For road riding, the standard length stays closest to the feel of the original part.
Fitment and Compatibility
Listed for the liquid-cooled R 1200 GS from 2013 to 2019, the EDB077 covers this generation of the bike. For 2013 to 2016, Accossato also names the EDB001, which additionally goes back to the air/oil-cooled GS of 2004; comparing your original lever with the photos of both helps you choose. On the clutch side, the ESC075 matches the same 2013 to 2019 range, while the ESB002 is listed for 2004 to 2016. Owners of the R 1200 GS Adventure will find a separate product for their bike.
Road Approval
There is no documented ABE for Germany covering the EDB077. We offer it for use on the track.
