The plain one, and at dusk the one a driver picks out first. White is the only finish on this page that does something measurable besides look good, and on a modular it works from the front as well — the chin bar carries the outline a car mirror registers.

What SHARP measured, and where this helmet sits

This is the only flip-up we sell that carries an independent crash rating, and it is also the cheapest. SHARP — the British Department for Transport's helmet programme — awarded the Strobe2 four stars out of five, tested in August 2026 to ECE 22.06.

The zone scores are worth reading rather than just the headline. At 6 m/s and again at 7.5 m/s every measured zone scored the maximum five. At the highest test speed, 8.5 m/s, the crown and rear held five while the left and right sides scored three. That is a helmet that protects very well at the speeds most impacts happen and gives ground at the sides when the energy gets extreme.

About the gloss white finish

Gloss white is the easiest of the twelve to clean and the hardest to keep looking new. The clear coat is smooth enough that insects lift with warm water rather than needing to be soaked off, which matters on a helmet whose chin bar you handle at every stop. What it will not hide is damage: a swirl from a dry cloth or a scuff from a tank bag shows as a bright line, because a white gloss surface gives a scratch nowhere to disappear. The compensation is thermal and measurable — a white shell in summer sun stays noticeably cooler to the touch than a black one, and on a KPA shell that heat has to pass through the polymer before it reaches the EPS. There is a second, less obvious advantage: on a white surface a crack shows immediately, where on black it can hide for months. A helmet that reports its own damage is a helmet you retire at the right time rather than the wrong one.

Three shells, and what KPA actually is

Seven sizes, XS to 3XL, carried on three shells: XS–S, M–L and XL–3XL. On a helmet built around one shell the smallest size wears a mid-size shell's worth of polystyrene — it looks oversized, weighs more than the size needs, and sits further from the head than it should. Three tools remove that at both ends of the range. The shell itself is KPA, LS2's Kinetic Polymer Alloy: an injection-moulded blend of polycarbonate and technical thermoplastics.

Ninety degrees, and how the chin bar locks

The chin bar lifts through ninety degrees and locks upright at the brow. It does not rotate to the back of the head — our FF906 Advant does that, and if you have read about a 180° Advant elsewhere, this is not it. Ninety degrees is the conventional arc, and what LS2 changed for this generation is the latch rather than the geometry.

What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label mean

The label on the chin strap reads ECE 22.06 with both a P and a J. P certifies the helmet as a protective full-face with the bar locked, chin impacts included; J certifies it as an open-face with the bar raised. Two homologations on one shell — which is what makes riding with the chin bar up approved rather than merely tolerated, and what limits the consequence of the chin-bar lock figure quoted above.

Twin Visor, sun visor — and the Pinlock that is not in the box

Two screens work here. The outer visor is hardcoated against scratches, UV-stabilised and off without tools; behind it a tinted sun visor drops on a side lever, usable one-handed in gloves. LS2 calls the pair the Twin Visor System. What is not in the box is a Pinlock lens. The visor is drilled and pinned for one — Pinlock® 70 MaxVision™, code DKS520 — but unlike the FF902 and FF906 in our range, you buy it separately.

Air, the breath deflector and the elastic-band liner

Air enters at the chin and at the crown, runs through channels moulded into the multi-density EPS, and leaves through the exhaust port at the rear. A breath deflector is fitted as standard behind the chin bar — the part that steers exhaled air downwards instead of up the inside of the visor, and the half of the fogging problem a Pinlock lens does not solve.

1700 grams, no emergency release, and the rest of the honest list

The honest list. Weight: 1700 g (±50) — lighter than both flip-ups above it in our range, and still heavy against any full-face. No emergency release system: neither LS2's specification nor ours lists one, where the FF902 Scope II and FF906 Advant both have it. No Pinlock in the box — the visor is prepared for one, you buy it separately.

On noise: nobody publishes a decibel figure for this helmet and we will not invent one. It comes from the neck seal, the gap under the chin bar and open vents — and from your motorcycle, because a screen aiming turbulent air at your head will make any helmet loud. Earplugs remain the cheapest upgrade in motorcycling.

When something wears out

Nothing that wears out on this helmet is the shell. We stock the Strobe II liner in every size from XS to 3XL, seven replacement visors, both generations of internal sun visor, the chin curtain, the chin strap cover, the nose guard, all three vent covers, the ratchet system with screws, the Pinlock insert and a complete chin bar in every one of the twelve colourways.
