DescriptionThe whole story▼
Reptaia is the loudest graphic in the fibre range: a black base overlaid with a glitter-textured pattern running from teal through violet, evoking scale or reptile-skin texture under the gloss coat rather than a flat printed motif — which is where the decor name comes from. It is a glossy finish rather than matte, which lets the glitter particles catch light directly instead of being muted under a satin coat. The glitter effect is most visible in direct sunlight or under artificial showroom lighting; in flat overcast conditions it reads closer to a plain dark shell with a faint sheen, worth knowing if the photography was seen only under studio lights.
The gloss finish and the glitter texture
A glossy clear coat sits over the graphic, which is what makes the embedded glitter particles visible as individual points of light rather than a flat sparkle — the same reason glitter finishes are almost always paired with gloss rather than matte. The trade-off is that gloss shows swirl marks from improper cleaning more readily than matte, so a microfibre cloth is worth the modest extra care.
About the Reptaia name
Reptaia is not a Shark naming convention used elsewhere in this range — it appears to be specific to this graphic, and the glitter-textured, scale-like pattern visible in the product photography is consistent with a reptile-skin reference, though Shark's own materials do not spell out the etymology explicitly. What can be confirmed directly from the image is the texture and colour composition described above.
What ECE 22.06 covers on the Reptaia
Under the glitter graphic sits the same ECE 22.06 certification as the rest of the range: eighteen impact points instead of the previous standard's five, several test speeds instead of one, an oblique-impact test against a rough anvil that twists the shell rather than dropping straight onto it, and a first-time score for rotational forces via a Brain Injury Criterion. The complete helmet, visor and Pinlock fitted, is what gets tested, not a stripped shell — and the certificate on this article reads 2206, road-only, no FIM suffix.
The shell under the Reptaia graphic
Reptaia's base shell is multiaxial composite fibre, the same cross-laid glass-fibre construction used across this entire line, distinct from the carbon shell of the pricier Spartan RS Carbon sold alongside it. The two shells share an identical ECE 22.06 certificate, the same Double-D buckle, the same multi-density EPS and the same VZ300 visor — carbon's edge is a lighter first-size figure and a different weave under the paint, not a safety difference.
Weight, and what it does to the neck
Shark's own figure for the Reptaia at the smallest shell size is 1500 g. That mass is carried by the neck the entire time the helmet is on, through braking, acceleration and every head movement rather than sitting there passively — over a multi-hour ride this becomes dozens of small corrective muscle contractions, which is why testers of this exact helmet reported no undue fatigue from it despite the weight being unremarkable rather than class-leading.
Ventilation behind the Reptaia graphic
Two intakes feed the interior — one at the chin bar directed at the visor, one on the forehead — with a permanently open rear-spoiler exhaust venting warm air out. The sliding controls are built to be worked with gloves, though they have no detent clicks, so a half-open setting is judged by feel. It is enough airflow for everyday riding, not a headline feature of this decor.
Sun visor and outer visor, Reptaia
Underneath the glossy outer shell sits a drop-down sun visor rated by reviewers as covering nearly the whole face, with distinct click positions. The outer VZ300 visor is optical class 1, 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm thick, four-point anchored, centrally locked, anti-scratch coated, and comes with a clear Pinlock 120 insert already fitted rather than sold as an accessory.
Visor swaps on Reptaia
The tool-free four-point visor lock applies here as it does across the whole Spartan RS fibre range, so changing to a spare or tinted visor is quick rather than a workshop task. Anti-scratch coating ships standard on every decor, this one included.
Intercom compatibility, Reptaia
Under the glitter graphic, the shell keeps the same cheek-pad recess as every Spartan RS decor, built for Shark's Sharktooth intercom or a SENA For SHARK unit to sit flush against the shell rather than bolted on top. The unit itself is sold separately.
Fit and sizing, Reptaia
Six sizes across two shell sizes rather than three is the trade-off reviewers name most often for this helmet family — fewer shells, a slightly higher chance of an oversized or undersized feel at the extremes. The internal shape compensates somewhat, reading as rounder than many rivals and specifically praised for suiting heads that find Shoei or Arai too oval.
Wind noise on Reptaia, honestly
There is no published decibel rating for this helmet. Independent testing offers two qualitative accounts: appropriate, unremarkable road noise at legal speeds according to one reviewer, and a flagged (but unmeasured) concern from another that the lack of a tight neck roll versus the older Spartan GT might raise motorway noise. Both are reported as given, not merged into a false single verdict.
Spare parts, Reptaia
Shark's dedicated visor listing covers this decor too, so a worn or scratched visor on the Reptaia is replaced rather than the whole helmet retired. The VZ300 visor family it uses is shared with the Spartan RS Carbon and the Spartan GT Pro Carbon, spreading replacement stock across three current lines.
Where this sits in Shark's own range
Reptaia sits in the upper price band of the fibre Spartan RS range. Here is how that sits against Shark's own current lineup:
| Line | Shell |
|---|---|
| Skwal i3 | Thermoplastic, LED brake light |
| OXO | Thermoplastic modular |
| Spartan RS | Multiaxial composite fibre |
| Spartan RS Carbon | Carbon, same VZ300 visor family |
| Spartan GT Pro Carbon | Carbon, also shares the VZ300 visor |
Limitations, honestly
A decor this graphic-forward will not suit every rider or bike colour the way the plainer Blank or Dark Shadow decors do. The supplier's colour name, Black Blue Glitter, is reasonable, though the glitter reads closer to a teal-violet shimmer than a single flat blue; both tones are listed. Two-shell sizing and unmeasured wind noise apply as in the rest of the line.
