The Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid is an unusual machine with an entirely ordinary airbox, and that combination is worth understanding before buying anything for it. The hybrid system is what makes the bike distinctive; the intake it breathes through is shared with a family of eleven conventional motorcycles built around the same element. Everything specific to this model is downstream of the filter, which means the filter is one of the few components on it that is neither exotic nor uncertain. The Sprint Filter P14 PM164P14 is the fine-filtration version of that ordinary part: dry non-woven, 14 microns, never oiled.
Key Features
- Fits the standard airbox directly — nothing modified, nothing remapped
- Roughly double the filtering surface of a comparable performance filter
- Dry non-woven medium filtering to 14 microns at an air flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Never oiled, so nothing can migrate onto sensors or throttle bodies
- The warranty runs two years; the element is designed to last the life of the motorcycle
- Washable and reusable; compressed air from the clean side is the routine
The advantage of a shared part on an unusual bike
Low-volume models have a predictable weakness: the parts unique to them get harder to find as the years pass, and the smaller the production run the sooner that starts. An element shared across eleven machines is on the other side of that problem — it stays in production because the volume comes from everywhere else in the family, not from this model. Buying a washable one removes the question entirely, since it is designed to last the life of the motorcycle rather than to be reordered.
Fine filtration for a bike that will be kept
The reason to choose the 14 micron medium rather than the standard 80 micron P08 is a long-term one. Fine airborne material is what reaches the bore and the ring pack; coarse material is caught by anything. On a first-generation hybrid that an owner intends to run for many years — and these are bought by people who intend exactly that — putting a finer barrier in front of the engine is a cheap decision with a long payoff. The cost is flow, 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050, which a bike of this character has no difficulty absorbing.
Care and cleaning
Over a long ownership the routine matters more than any single clean. Compressed air from the clean side, directed outwards, and the element goes back dry — done more frequently when the roads have been dusty, which is what this medium is for. Water is the occasional step: lukewarm, a mild detergent, a rinse until it runs clear, then a full air dry with no heat and no flame involved at any point. The medium is never oiled, so the procedure is the same in the first year and the last. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
