Two numbers describe this cloth and at first reading they contradict each other. Its aperture is 85 microns, wider than the 80 of the standard P08; its measured retention of 100-micron particles is 95.22 %, higher than the P08's 93.13 %. Both are published, both are correct, and they are not measuring the same thing. Getting that straight is most of what is needed to decide whether PM153S F1-85 belongs in this airbox at all.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester in the F1-85 racing specification, never oiled at any stage
- 85 microns at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow rate of the media in the programme
- 95.22 % measured retention of 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the standard P08
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements
- Seats in the unmodified series airbox in place of the paper panel; nothing cut, no remap
- Regenerated with compressed air between uses; two years of warranty from purchase
An aperture and a measurement are different claims
The micron figure describes the weave. The percentage describes what one particular test found when one particular particle size was put through it. A single retention figure at 100 microns says nothing about the finer fraction — and the fine fraction is what stays airborne longest, follows the air furthest and reaches the surfaces that matter. So neither number on its own settles anything. The one quantity that can be compared without ambiguity is flow: 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050, which is where this specification really lives.
Where that leaves a road-registered machine
Flow headroom is collected only in the moments the engine draws everything the box will pass. Whatever the weave does not hold back is collected in every hour it runs. A motorcycle used on public roads spends very little time in the first situation and all of its time in the second, which is why the standard P08 is catalogued for the same housing and is the sensible default. By Sprint Filter's own account its filters are the most used in MotoGP, World Superbike and the production-based classes, and that is the setting these figures were chosen for. No panel in a series airbox makes a standard motorcycle noticeably faster; it returns the restriction it caused and nothing else.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is dry from start to finish. An air line against the clean side, blown outward, restores the element between outings and it can go back in immediately. After a wet session, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and a rinse until the water is clear, then a complete dry in moving air — never with heat, never over a flame. Refit it dry with nothing applied to it. The maintenance sheet for the PM153S F1-85 is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Bimota Tesi H2 of 2020 to 2026, the Bimota Tesi H2 Tera of the same years and the Kawasaki ZX1000 Ninja H2 of 2015 to 2026 — three machines, all named in the Fitment tab. The same airbox is catalogued with the standard P08, the 14-micron P14 and the 7-micron T12.
