This is Monza doing a job rather than making a statement. Fluorescent yellow is the only colour here that is brighter than white in daylight, because a fluorescent pigment re-emits ultraviolet as visible light instead of merely reflecting what lands on it. Set into the matt dark base, it puts that brightness exactly where an approaching driver looks.

What SHARP measured, and where this helmet sits

Where it sits: bottom of our flip-up table by price, and the only row in it with a published safety rating. SHARP awarded four of five stars in August 2026 under ECE 22.06.

The gap to the next row is forty euros and fifty grams. The gap to the top of the table is three hundred and thirty euros and a hundred and fifty grams. What none of the more expensive rows currently offers is an independent test result, which is worth weighing honestly rather than assuming price tracks protection.

Fluorescent finishes are sold on looks and deserve to be understood on physics. An ordinary pigment can only return part of the light falling on it; a fluorescent one absorbs ultraviolet — abundant on exactly the overcast and dusk days when visibility is worst — and re-emits it in the visible range. The result genuinely appears brighter than white under those conditions, which is why high-visibility clothing is regulated around it rather than around white. The dark base matters as much as the yellow: it keeps the helmet from looking like safety equipment, and it gives the eye a dark surround that makes the yellow read brighter still. One honest limitation applies to every fluorescent surface ever made — the effect fades with sustained ultraviolet exposure. Keep it out of a sunny window and it holds its colour for years longer.

Three shells, and what KPA actually is

KPA ages differently from a composite, and that matters when you decide how long to keep a helmet. Ultraviolet and heat degrade a polymer shell, not crashes you never had. Keep it out of a sunny window and out of a hot car boot and the five-year guidance is conservative; leave it on a parcel shelf all summer and it is not. The range spans XS to 3XL on three shells, split XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL.

Ninety degrees, and how the chin bar locks

The chin bar carries the chin vent, which means it is handled more than any other moving part on the helmet. Every time it swings, the vent slider goes with it, and that is worth knowing because the chin vent is the part riders break first. The bar itself is available as a spare in every colourway in this range, which is unusual at this price and the reason a scuffed helmet is repairable rather than finished.

What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label mean

The dual P/J approval has a specific consequence on this helmet that is worth connecting to what SHARP found. If a chin bar releases under impact, a P-only modular is outside its certified configuration at exactly the wrong moment. A P/J helmet is not: the open state was tested and approved on its own terms. Chin protection is lost either way; head protection is not.

Twin Visor, sun visor — and the Pinlock that is not in the box

Buying the Pinlock separately has one advantage worth mentioning, since we are being straight about it not being included: you choose the grade. The DKS520 is the standard 70 lens for this helmet. If you ride at night a great deal, the difference between a 70 and a higher-transmission insert is perceptible, and having the choice is marginally better than having the decision made for you in the box.

Air, the breath deflector and the elastic-band liner

Laser cutting is not a marketing word on this interior. A stamped pad has one profile at one density; a laser-cut one can vary both within the same piece. LS2 calls it 3D laser-cut padding, and what it produces is a liner that holds the helmet at the jaw without pressing at the temples — the difference between a helmet that is comfortable for an hour and one that is comfortable for a day.

1700 grams, no emergency release, and the rest of the honest list

Read this before the reviews. No emergency release. Pinlock not included (DKS520, sold separately). 1700 g. Ninety-degree chin bar, not the 180° of the Advant. And from the SHARP report itself: the chin bar stayed fully locked in 37 % of impacts, which the dual P/J homologation mitigates but does not erase.

None of that is hidden elsewhere on this page. What is unusual at this price is the four-star rating, three shell sizes and a sun visor as standard.

When something wears out

The ratchet system is supplied with its screws, which sounds trivial and is not — the commonest way this repair goes wrong is a rider reusing worn fasteners in a mechanism that has to hold a chin bar shut. Order it when the bar or the visor stops holding position: creeping shut at speed, dropping from the cracked-open position, or a notchy patch in the travel.
