Folding Footrest Tips
A detail that says a great deal: MV fitted the Rivale with footrests whose outer sections fold, on the assumption that the bike would be ridden hard enough to touch them down. It is not a supermoto and it was clearly drawn by someone who had ridden one.
The Range Rationalisation
The Rivale lasted three model years before MV simplified its lineup and dropped it. Small production runs are normal for the marque; what makes this one notable is how well the motorcycle was received by the few people who tried it.
Milled Lettering
Cut into the aluminium during machining and anodised afterwards. It shares the surface of the body and cannot lift or fade separately, which matters on a part the rider's hand covers continuously.
High Bars, Short Cam
An upright riding position gives the wrist less natural rotation than clip-ons do, which makes a long throttle travel more awkward. Reducing it suits the Rivale's ergonomics specifically rather than being a general improvement.
Cables Retained
Mechanical conversion, original cables reused, nothing electrical disturbed. On an MV of this era that is worth more than it would be on a more recent machine.
Scarce Parts
Three model years and small numbers mean very little exists for the Rivale. A component that fits properly rather than being adapted from the Brutale is worth taking when it is available.
Small Numbers, Short Life
Three model years and modest production. The Rivale disappeared during a range rationalisation before it found the audience it deserved, and everything made for it since has been made in correspondingly small quantities.
