Staggered Mounting
The offset pattern, for the second of the two clamp arrangements. Nothing in a catalogue photograph distinguishes it and thirty seconds on the bike does.
Dust Rather Than Water
Rain dries. Fine grit picked up over years of road use does not, and once it is past a clipped cover it sits against a terminal for the rest of the component's life.
A Few Grams More
A machined body is marginally heavier than the moulded original. Nobody fits one for weight and saying so plainly is more useful than implying otherwise.
Sealed Past Requirement
The elements inside exceed what a road motorcycle needs. A SuperSport is ridden in weather rather than waited out, which is exactly where that margin gets used.
Tooling Versus Programmes
An injection mould only makes sense across very large volumes. A machining file costs nothing to alter, which is why a part for one model in one year can exist.
The Bar Hits the Ground
In any low-speed fall the handlebar arrives first. A moulded shell cracks along its joint and a milled body scuffs, which is a difference measured in whether it still works afterwards.
A Fast Bike for Journeys
A hundred and thirteen horsepower, a full fairing and a riding position holdable for three hours. Ducati aimed it at people who had owned superbikes and stopped enjoying them.
A Screen That Moves
Fifty millimetres of adjustment by hand at a standstill. On a motorcycle built for distance it does more for usability than most of the electronics do.
Largely Ignored
The SuperSport was reviewed politely and bought quietly, and it turned out to be one of the better motorcycles Ducati was making. Sensible bikes are rarely rewarded at launch.
