Semi-Active Öhlins
Damping adjusted continuously from the inertial platform. On a short-wheelbase twin with 205 horsepower, the weight moves between the wheels faster than a fixed setting can follow.
A Hundred and Sixteen Newton Metres
The torque increase over the 1199 mattered more than the extra power. It is the main reason the 1299 is the easier of the two to ride quickly on a road with corners on it.
Either Master Cylinder
The universal pattern accepts the original clamp and the radial units. On a bike this often modified at the lever end, that removes an ordering decision entirely.
Black, Red or Titanium
Grown into the metal rather than sprayed over it. Titanium sits closest to the S's gold suspension without attempting to match it, which usually reads better.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed within the machined body rather than behind a clipped cover. A track bike is cleaned hot after every session and the jet finds a lid without fail.
Ten Years of Contacts
The earliest 1299s are approaching a decade. What stops working is the terminal beneath the button, after water has reached it and sat there through a winter.
The Final Edition
Ducati closed the line with a 1299 Final Edition carrying the R's engine. Both it and the Anniversario were built in small numbers and both have held their value remarkably.
Ducati's Plug
Pre-wired to the original connector, so nothing is cut into the harness. The change leaves no trace anywhere in the diagnostics.
Brembo Stylema, Eventually
The last 1299 S models carried Brembo's lighter monobloc caliper with revised internal cooling. It reduced the lever effort noticeably, which on a motorcycle stopping repeatedly from these speeds is worth more than the small weight saving that came with it.
