The Menu Side
Indicators and horn at every junction, plus the whole dashboard structure. On a motorcycle used on roads rather than only at circuits, this block sees several times the operations the right one does.
Eight Hundred and Ninety-Eight Cubic Centimetres
A smaller Superquadro with a narrower bore and a longer stroke than the 1199. It made 148 horsepower and was substantially easier to ride quickly, which most owners discovered with relief.
Three Finishes
Black, red and titanium, converted into the top layer of the aluminium. Nothing sits on the surface to chip after a decade of gloves and weather.
Sealed Inside
The elements are enclosed within the machined body rather than behind a snap-fit lid. On an eleven-year-old motorcycle that is the difference between working switchgear and a project.
Ten Years of Contacts
What gives up is the terminal under the button, once moisture has reached it. The mechanism above is usually still perfectly sound when the function stops answering.
Underseat Exhausts
The 899 kept the silencers the 959 later lost to Euro 4. It is a large part of why the smaller Panigale looks better than its successor and owners mention it unprompted.
Cut From One Block
Ergal 7075, an aerospace grade roughly twice as strong as the aluminium normally used for machined parts. On a clamped component that is structural rather than decorative.
Factory Plug
Pre-wired to Ducati's own connector. Nothing spliced, nothing coded, and the exchange takes about fifteen minutes.
Only Two Model Years
The 959 replaced the 899 quickly, which has kept it scarcer than a middleweight superbike of its age would normally be. Owners tend to know exactly what they have and to look after it.
