The Interface Side
Cruise control, riding modes, ABS settings and the display. On a touring motorcycle the left block is worked more or less continuously through a day in the saddle.
Legends That Survive
There are none on a machined body, so nothing can be lost to ultraviolet. On a bike that spends its life outdoors, printed markings are the first casualty.
Fasteners That Hold
Threads cut into aluminium take a proper torque and take it again. On an adventure bike whose bars get changed after drops, that is a practical benefit rather than a claim.
An Even Grip on a Wide Bar
Machined to the tube's diameter so the load spreads. On a handlebar carrying luggage-laden leverage through every corner, that matters more than on clip-ons.
Salt and Standing Water
The damage happens overnight rather than in motion. Moisture and salt collect in a joint and work inward for hours, which a body with no joint simply does not permit.
Nothing Cut
Pre-wired to the factory connector. A long way from a workshop, an installation with no splices in it is the one still working at the far end of a trip.
A Rear Subframe Redesigned
Most of the weight saving over the 950 came from restructuring what sits behind the seat rather than from exotic materials. That is the durable way to make a motorcycle lighter.
Cruise Control That Works
Ducati's system holds a speed properly on a gradient rather than surging. On a bike whose owners cover genuine distance, that is more relevant than most of the electronics that get advertised.
The Alternative to Four Cylinders
Not everyone wants a V4 Multistrada, and Ducati kept a twin in the range for exactly that reason. It is lighter, cooler, cheaper and enough motorcycle for most of the people who buy one.
