Operated Constantly
Modes and traction levels get changed on a bike with this much power far more than on a milder one. Every one of those inputs passes through the left-hand block.
Surface Printing
The legends on a moulded assembly are printed on and they fade under sunlight within a few seasons. There is nothing printed on a machined body to lose.
Heat and Cold, Repeatedly
An L-twin puts real warmth into the cockpit area and then it cools completely. Plastics creep under that cycling and aluminium is indifferent to it.
Clipped Halves
The factory block is two moulded pieces held together with snap fittings. Under a 160 horsepower twin's vibration those lose tension across years, and the play never comes back out.
Microns of Colour
Anodising is part of the metal rather than a layer on it. On a bike carrying carbon and gold, a finish that ages quietly rather than chipping is worth choosing.
Twenty Minutes Back to Standard
Nothing cut, nothing soldered. On a short-run model that people keep and eventually sell to collectors, an untouched harness has genuine value.
Built for the Hyper-Nakeds
Ducati aimed the R at the Super Duke and the Tuono rather than at its own range, matching them on power and undercutting them on weight. It never quite outsold either of them.
Raised, Not Lowered
Ducati increased the ride height while the market chased lower seats. It sharpened the geometry considerably and made the bike far more willing to turn on the front wheel.
An Exhaust Under the Tail
The two-into-one-into-two system changes the whole silhouette and is the detail that identifies an R across a car park at a glance.
